Francine Drescher stole fans' hearts with her role as Fran Fine in the sitcom "The Nanny." The actress became known for her high-pitched, nasally voice and thick New York accent. However, people often advised her that her unique voice would deter producers and directors from hiring her.
After trying to lose her distinctive way of speaking, Drescher found no roles at all, leading her to readopt her accent. It seemed that her unusual voice was not only a trademark characteristic, but viewers also found it highly entertaining. Eventually, Drescher found her big break with "The Nanny."
When she got the idea for her hit TV show, Drescher was married to her first husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. The pair had known each other since they were teenagers and attended Hillcrest High School together. They married in 1978 and started "The Nanny" together in 1993. Unfortunately, their marriage didn't last.
After going through a second failed marriage between 2014 and 2016, Drescher spent time on her own.
In 1999, Jacobson and Drescher decided to get a divorce. Later, in 2014, Drescher married again, this time tying the knot with Shiva Ayyadurai. This second marriage sadly didn't last either, and Drescher and Ayyadurai went their separate ways in 2016. Nonetheless, after turning 65 in September, Drescher is happy, single, and still looks fantastic.
Fran Drescher's Dating Life
Despite her two failed marriages, Drescher is happy alone. The actress has decided to prioritize her own well-being instead of pursuing another relationship. She made herself her first priority and said she needed to take some time after being exhausted from her career and work with her foundation, Cancer Schmancer.
The high school sweethearts still spend a lot of time together. After their divorce drove them apart, they had to see their relationship in a new light.
After going through a second failed marriage between 2014 and 2016, Drescher spent time on her own. However, she admitted that she was in a casual relationship during the 2020 lockdown. The actress divulged that, although she often saw the unnamed man, they were never deadly serious. She shared:
"He comes over, we hang out and we do the hot tub, and I make us some food, and we lay in bed, and maybe we'll watch tennis together, whatever it is, or a movie. We talk. We have good conversations."
Drescher noted that the relationship didn't last long. Eventually, he went off to spend time on private islands, and her attention was taken up by a close friend falling ill. Drescher said with the distance, the relaxed, convenient aspects disappeared, and her interest in the connection faded with it.
Fran Drescher's Relationship with Her Ex-husband
After being together for 21 years, Drescher and Jacobson split. Two years after the divorce, the writer and producer confessed to his ex-wife that he was gay. Despite the divorce, Jacobson and Drescher remained close, and the actress served as a source of support while her ex-husband came to terms with himself. Jacobson commented:
"We work together. Go out to eat. Travel together. I feel like I still have a wife."
The high school sweethearts still spend a lot of time together. After their divorce drove them apart, they had to see their relationship in a new light. Drescher shared that their agent helped them realize they had a wonderful camaraderie and they shouldn't let their differences ruin it. Drescher remarked about their newly reformed friendship:
"We are divorced, but still single because it is hard to compete with what we shared. We have been together since we were 15 and we've been through so much."
Drescher has been adamant that she would most likely never marry again. Although she's open to enjoying someone else's company, she has no intention of changing herself or complicating her current situation. The actress also noted that she believes taking a break and doing introspection is incredibly important.
And that's what Drescher's doing at the moment. She has her ex-husband and newly reacquired best friend to keep her company whenever she needs it. Drescher called Jacobson her "soul mate" and said there is most likely not another relationship that would come close to their level of closeness.
