After Losing 4 Babies, Mom Gives Birth to Rare Twins with Different Skin Colors

Jade Buckingham faced obstacles throughout her life, and her challenging journey to motherhood began when she was just a teenager.

She Longed to Be a Mother

The medical team at Nottingham University Hospital suspected Jade's unique situation could prevent her from carrying a child to full term. She was devastated when doctors told her she might never have kids.

The pregnancy was successful, and the woman gave birth to a healthy boy named Cairo in early 2016. She adored her son and loved being a mom.

But to everyone's surprise, Jade's motherhood adventure had just begun, and she discovered she was expecting again in 2017.

It Was a Risky Pregnancy

The discovery was doubly blessed because Jade was carrying twins. The babies grew separately in her two wombs, each with a sac and umbilical cord—it was miraculous and rare.

Jade couldn't believe it but was also worried, hoping both children would survive. There were many risks and concerns during her pregnancy, and she shared:

''When I fell pregnant with the twins I was over the moon - but it was scary that they were both in different wombs."

Doctors asked Jade to make a nearly impossible decision that would have many consequences. The terrified mother explained:

"We had two choices, either I deliver both at 22 weeks, but they might not survive, or I carry on, and my daughter might not survive. It was a horrible predicament to be in."

She Had to Make a Difficult Choice

Jade had to think carefully about her choices and was anxious. Amid the uncertainty, she knew what she needed to do, no matter how difficult it might be. She chose to continue carrying the twins, hoping for the best. She kept them in her wombs, knowing she could lose both of them.

In April 2018, Jade was rushed in for a C-section. She had carried the babies for 34 weeks, and the time to deliver them had arrived. Little Lanaé entered the world feet first, followed by her brother, Lavell, who was born head first.

The Twins Were Polar Opposites

The rare twins were healthy, and Jade was over the moon. They looked similar when they were newborns, but their mom noticed something surprising as time passed.

She shared that her daughter's hair grew dark and curly while her son's hair was blonde. Their different skin tones also became apparent, and Jade added:

"Sometimes when we're out, and people ask about them, they don't believe that they're twins, and sometimes I show them a picture of when they were born.''

Jade described her precious twins as polar opposites and said they had a typical sibling love-hate relationship. They were perfect, and she wouldn't change a thing about them.
