Jane Gillan Stoddard was raised by Patricia Stoddard and Hudson G. Stoddard in New Canaan, Connecticut, where she went to New Canaan Country School. She obtained a degree in political science and Russian magna cum laude from Duke University.

Her father was the Vice President of Marketing for WNET/ Channel 13 and helped build the PBS station in New York City. Abolitionist Owen Lovejoy was the producer's great-great-grandfather. He was a Congregational minister and Republican congressman from Illinois.
There are many educators in her family, a profession she is in "awe" of. She is the host of "Bloomberg EDU," a weekly radio show that covers education. She serves on the board of an education non-profit, Horizons National.

The couple met in Washington while they were working on "Panorama" - she was an executive producer, and he was a new reporter on the public affairs television show.

Popular Actress Allison Williams Is One of Their Children
Jane and Brian have two children, Douglas "Doug" Williams, and actress Allison Williams. Doug is an anchor at CBS New York. Previously he worked for the Yankee Entertainment Network and hosted "Geico SportsNite."
He has been married to Emily Altieri since October 1, 2022, who works in marketing and strategy. The anchor was a "reverend" for a weekend when he officiated a friend's wedding at the beginning of that year.
The producer's daughter, Allison Williams, was born on April 13, 1988. Like her mother, she attended an Ivy League college, Yale University.
