Although Russell considers Kate and Oliver's children to be his own grandchildren, his first biological and shared grandchild with Hawn was born in March 2021. Meredith, Hawn's "amazing" daughter-in-law, revealed the news on Instagram.

She shared a series of photos of her and Wyatt in their RV, which they named Carnella, and said that their baby was born two weeks after the pictures were taken. She revealed her son's name was Buddy Pine Russell. She described the journey to motherhood as "magic."

After his son was born to him and his wife, Wyatt also admitted he thought that being a father was a one-of-a-kind experience and gushed:

"Biologically, I think it does something to your brain where you just erase half your life before you've lived there. And now it's about him and your family and trying to balance everything, and time and new, amazing problems, amazing issues to have."

The actor also revealed that everything he thought fatherhood was going to be was not what happened, and he instead got so much more than he ever thought he was going to when his son was born.

In 2020, when the world was quarantining to stay healthy, Hawn said it was challenging to be apart from her grandchildren. She mused:

"My grandkids call me GoGo, and they are like: 'GoGo, I wish I could just hug you!' And that is so hard."

Wyatt said that his children call his mother and father Gogo and Gogi, respectively, because those are their nicknames in life. Russell has even named his own wine after the nickname his grandchildren call him. Hawn has said her grandchildren bring her "incredible joy."
