Kim Basinger Went to Pregnant Daughter's 'Inappropriate' Baby Shower after They Didn't Speak for a Year

Kim Basinger only welcomed one child, her daughter Ireland Baldwin, from her second marriage. Ireland was now an actress and a model who's modelled for brands like Guess and True Religion.

Basinger's daughter also appeared on several magazine covers including Marie Claire. She followed in her mother's footsteps by being an actress who's featured in the 2013 movie, "Grudge Match."

Her mother was well-known for her roles on "Batman" and "L.A. Confidential." At the end of 2022, it was revealed that Ireland was going to be a first-time mother, making Basinger, then 69, a grandmother for the first time and the star was thrilled!

Ireland, then 27, shared the news of her pregnancy on New Year's Eve, via an Instagram post and her mother reacted to it by sharing their individual sonograms. On January 4, 2023, the actress noted the similarities between their sonograms and felt they proved the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Basinger explained that her sonogram was when she was expecting her daughter in April 1995. A note that was attached on one of her first sonograms said her child would have four white paws and a tail.

Speaking to her doctor, at the time, the actress had joked that she was expecting a puppy. The star said that weekend, she looked at her daughter's sonogram and could've sworn Ireland was expecting a "beagle!," before noting:

“Like mother, like daughter…. and a new baby girl coming our way."

Ireland, who would be sharing her child with her boyfriend André Allen Anjos, replied to the post writing “Awwww." Anjos, also known by his musician name RAC, left a comment noting how he couldn't wait to meet his daughter too.

When the model announced her pregnancy she included a photo of her sonogram and wished everyone a happy New Year. Besides her fans, Basinger's daughter also received congratulations from her cousins Hailey Bieber, and Alaia Baldwin.

While the actress was now able to congratulate and celebrate her daughter's pregnancy, the pair had a period where they had no communication. If the duo hadn't resolved their issues, Basinger might've missed out on being a grandmother.

Kim’s Daughter Didn’t Talk to Her for a Year

On January 18, 2023, Ireland uploaded a lengthy note discussing her pregnancy. The model confessed that pregnancy was hard and took a lot out of the soon-to-be mother, and she wasn't ready for that.

However, she admitted that she'd always wanted to have a child with the right person. The star said she'd grown up with a "jaded perception" of love and what it looked like so she wanted a baby with someone who'd treat them right and give them unconditional love.

Basinger's daughter shared how she'd underestimated how difficult pregnancy would be on her body and mind. The actress admitted that she felt unmotivated and exhausted, and like her life was passing by while her career hadn't even begun.

Ireland revealed that despite having a caring partner in Anjos, living far from her family had been challenging. She explained how hard it was not being close to family because they were idiots you didn't want nothing to do with or they lived far.

The model said it was difficult to see other people going through pregnancy with their parents close by. The star saw how some of her friends faded away after finding out she was pregnant, making her feel like she was a mere "drinking buddy" to them.

Someone else asked, "What has become of this generation?? God help them please!!"

Ireland said she was sharing her thoughts to make other people feel less lonely. However, she confessed that none of what she wrote reflected on how excited she was to become a mother and that it was all worth it.

She still believed it was okay to admit how scary and hard it could be, but comforted her followers by letting them know that they were not all alone. In April 2022, during a Red Table Talk appearance, Ireland revealed that she once cut connection with her parents, including father, Alec Baldwin.

The actress admitted that she'd hidden her alcoholism and illegal substance addiction from her family. She isolated from her family and her real friends while struggling to control things in her life, and tortured herself with her eating disorder, adding:

“I didn’t talk to my parents for like a year. I saw them here and there, but I was so ashamed of what I had become and how I was living.”

Luckily, she was able to overcome her challenges and now had a budding relationship with her parents. Ireland was so close to her mother that Basinger was invited when she had her baby shower.

Sweet Moment of Mother and Daughter Criticized

In March 2023, Ireland's family and friends hosted a baby shower where she, Basinger, and Anjos were seen sharing a warm hug. However, what surprised some people was that the event was held at a adult amusement club!

In Ireland's Instagram and Instagram Story post, the legendary actress smiled while looking at her daughter during the event. She wore a dark gray suit with a matching button down, while Ireland sported a Victoria's Secret Ruched Lace Slip that showed off her baby bump.

The model also had on a pink wig. One of the images showed her with one-dollar bills as she laughed and hugged her mother, leading to some positive comments from fans like the one who said they loved the photo of Ireland and her mother.

A second person thought it was the "greatest baby shower idea ever," while someone else was touched by how Ireland's mother looked at her. In another post where the actress shared more images of her baby shower, some fan's showed displeasure, with one person writing:

On Basinger's Instagram post where she shared hers and her daughter's sonograms, the star said she was looking forward to meeting "this little Snoopy." The actress also revealed that her grandchild was expected in June.
