Ric Ocasek’s Wife Paulina Porizkova Slammed after Opening up about ‘Lonely’ Marriage to the Late Musician

Paulina Porizkova was criticized for her honest remembrance of her late estranged husband, Ric Ocasek, on what would have been his 79th birthday on March 23, 2023. An Instagram user wrote, "This seems too personal of a criticism against a good man who is no longer here to defend himself."

Sharing a photo of their last family vacation, Paulina Porizkova wrote that around the time it was taken, she told Ric Ocasek that she was so lonely that anyone could woo her, including him. Yet she remembers him for the love he brought into her life, "Despite my growing loneliness as his wife, when the four of us were together, we were an incredibly strong unit."

Concern for the adult kids was a dominant reproach in the comments, "Do you ever talk to [your kids] about it before posting particular things?" Someone who had not had time to read the model's memoir asked, "Why did you marry each other? What was the attraction?" A popular message read, "There is nothing harder than being alone in a relationship."

On Sunday morning, September 15, 2019, Porizkova found her estranged partner dead in his bed when bringing him coffee. She would later tell ET, "There was no pain for him. Of course, [he] left quite a lot of pain for us."

She has chosen to think of Ocasek's vindictive act as a "crime of passion."

A month before dying of a heart condition, Ocasek had written her out of his will, citing her abandonment. Porizkova remembered it differently. Though separated in 2017, they still lived together to raise their kids and even attended the same parties where they'd flirt with other people.

While promoting her book, "No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful," Paulina Porizkova said in November 2022 that when she met Ocasek at 19, she was starved of love, not having gotten it from her parents:

"The biggest misconception about my marriage to my husband was that it was a toxic marriage because it ended so poorly. We had an amazing 25 years. Ric gave me the love that I so needed."

Paulina Porizkova had forgiven the man with whom she had two sons. She has chosen to think of Ocasek's vindictive act as a "crime of passion," rationalizing that in his "own little twisted way, he cared."

The Cars frontman also cut his two sons from his previous marriage from the testament. According to a news report, the estate was worth $5.115 million.
