Rupert Everett Once Said Coming Out as Gay Damaged His Acting Career
Rupert came out as gay in the 1980s, back then when homosexuality was seen as taboo. During an interview, he revealed to The Guardian that his decision to go public about his sexuality cost him his career.
Despite many controversies surrounding Rupert, he has been in a long-term relationship with Henrique, a Brazilian accountant.

Rupert, who at the age of 25 was already making big moves in Hollywood, told The Guardian that when he went public about his sexuality, his career came crumbling down, and he never got a job in Hollywood.
He then said because of his experience, he would never advise any actor thinking of his career to go public about their sexuality. In 2018, Rupert found himself in hot soup and had to set the record straight about his controversial remarks to The Guardian in 2009.
He clarified that the sentiments he made were not advice for gay actors. The actor said he never intended to advise anyone to do anything and that every actor is supposed to do what works for them.

Rupert once revealed that he ran in the opposite direction when he discovered that one of his then-sexual partners was diagnosed with HIV in the 80s. The actor revealed to English broadcaster Piers Morgan that at the time, he was terrified when the AIDS pandemic hit back in the 80s. He said:
"I was terrified of it and of him and kind of ran in the opposite direction."
Despite Being Gay, Rupert Everett Had a 6-Year-Long Affair with Paula Yates
Even though Rupert came out publicly, he still had an affair with a married woman. The actor met late TV presenter Yates after she and her then-husband Bob Geldof had gone to see "Another Country" stage play.

After the play, Yates interviewed Rupert, and the next thing, the two began hooking up—the affair lasted six years. On having an affair with another man's wife, Rupert said he didn't feel guilty and that the guilt was on Yates since she was the married one. While discussing the relationship during an interview, he said:
"She was married. I was gay. These constraints operated like a kind of safety net."
Rupert Everett Has Been in a Long-Term Relationship with a Brazilian Accountant Named Henrique
Despite many controversies surrounding Rupert, he has been in a long-term relationship with Henrique, a Brazilian accountant. Henrique has been Rupert Everett's boyfriend for 14 years, and the two have kept their relationship under wraps. Rupert, who does not believe in marriage, has on several occasions voiced strong opinions about it, claiming it restrains a relationship.
