Edward worked in theatre at the beginning of his acting career and then made his film debut in "Primal Fear" in 1996.

The actor shot up the popularity charts quickly, earning an Oscar nomination for his first movie role. Edward and his then-fiancée, Shauna Robertson, welcomed Atlas into the world in March 2013. Shauna is a film producer who has cooked up films like "Meet The Parents," starring father-of-six Robert De Niro and Quinlin Dempsey Stiller's father Ben Stiller, and "Knocked Up" with healthy-living actor Seth Rogen.

Atlas's parents began dating in 2005 and stepped into further commitment six years later in 2011 when Edward privately got engaged to the producer while on tour in India. According to US Magazine, the couple secretly married in 2012. Before their relationship, Edward dated actress Salma Hayek, US Magazine reports.

Atlas's parents have an air of seclusion in their private life, sharing very little information about things that go on in their personal life. Atlas was born shortly after the 2012 wedding, and his parents had concealed his impending arrival until the very last days of their pregnancy.

Atlas's parents only spoke of his name nearly two years after he was born. They only announced that the chosen name was Atlas 22 months into his life. As reported by US Magazine on January 2015, Atlas was living in Manhattan with his parents at the time of his name reveal.

A source revealed that Edward was excited about fatherhood and took the time to choose a stroller for the newborn. The name became known when Atlas's mother attended an event in Malibu in April 2014. Atlas, in Greek Mythology, is the name of a titan sentenced to hold up the heavens on his shoulders.

The task was a punishment from Zeus to Atlas, and the name maintained its popularity millenniums later. In fact, in 2013, Atlas was one of the fastest emerging names on the 2013 names list, previously chosen by actress Anne Heche for her son Atlas Heche Tupper in November 2009.

Atlas Norton's Parents Were 'Thrilled and Excited for Parenthood'

Although Atlas's parents were "thrilled and excited for parenthood," an insider revealed, they did a good job concealing their child and the private matters of their relationship. Still, the actor was spotted with Atlas occasionally during his first few years of life.

When Atlas was 17 months old, paparazzi got a glimpse of him with his dad on a New York street. During a father-and-son stroll, Edward stopped by a nearby bench for a phone call. Another such occasion was in 2017 when a safely-strapped Atlas was seen riding scooters with his dad in New York.

Years after Atlas was born, in 2016, the "American History X" star was seen carrying an infant as he entered his home in New York. Although there are no confirmations of a second addition to their family, it would be no surprise if they welcomed a second child privately.

Atlas Norton and Edward Norton Are Descendants of Pocahontas

Daily Mail shared the interesting discovery about Edward's ancestry, derived from the TV show "Finding Your Roots." The publication divulged that the actor is related to the famous 17th-century Native American woman, Pocahontas. Results proved that she is Edward's great-grandmother of 12 previous generations.

The show's host, Henry Lois Gates Jr., told Atlas's father, "Pocahontas is indeed your 12th great grandma." This discovery means Atlas shares the same relation, though one generation later.
