Catherine O’Hara Is ‘Delightful’ at 69 — She Won Husband’s Heart After Grousing That He Never Asked Her Out
Actress Catherine O'Hara looks charming and beautiful at 69 after hitting the jackpot with Bo Welch, her husband. The couple has been married for 31 years. They proved they have a solid union and still could celebrate big news with hot kisses at their age! Here is how their love story of 35 years started.
Catherine O'Hara is best known for starring in the classic 1990 holiday film, "Home Alone," where she played Kate McCallister, a forgetful mother of six.
The Canadian native, known for her comedy work, starred alongside actor John Heard who portrayed Peter McCallister, her on-screen husband.

She also co-starred with Macaulay Culkin, who played her eight-year-old son, Kevin McCallister, in the beloved movie. However, O'Hara was famous before "Home Alone."
The Hollywood star appeared in the 1988 fantasy film "Beetlejuice" as Delia Deetz. It is where she met her beloved husband. However, she almost lost out on the role. O'Hara was asked to audition for the movie by producer David Geffen.

But she had no idea who he was or the director, Tim Burton, was at the time. On top of being reluctant to audition, she got lost when she finally decided to fly to LA from Toronto. He arrived two hours late after her set audition time, and Burton had already left at that point.
Despite missing him, he evidently loved her previous work because he offered her the role, nonetheless. O'Hara landed the part a few weeks later.

In 2015, the acclaimed star appeared as Moira Rose in the hit sitcom, "Schitt's Creek," which ran for six seasons until 2020.
O'Hara is now 69 years old and recently showed off her blissful beauty when she attended an event. Fellow Canadian native politician, Darren Fisher, posted a selfie of him and the movie star beaming.
"Glad, Moira. Oops, I mean Catherine O'Hara didn't just RSVP as 'pending.' She is as delightful and funny in real life as you'd imagine. So great to meet her," he wrote.
Fans commented on the post and complimented the pair. "Absolutely brilliant," one Facebook user penned. While another person said, "Very cool."
O'Hara Met Future Husband on Set
Aside from being a beloved character from a popular television series, O'Hara was not that lucky when coming to her love life in her early years, especially in high school.
She had a thing for tall, dark, and handsome guys back in the day. She admitted to having some bad choices when it came to crushes in her younger years.

O'Hara never had a stable relationship while attending high school. She explained it was because she was spending too much time with her friends and playing around a lot.
She joined show business in the mid-1970s and met actor Eugene Levy whom she had a brief fling while they were both at Second City in Toronto. O'Hara once told host Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live!" that everyone at the theater was dating somebody:
"Like, 'He makes me laugh. I should go out with him.' So, we did maybe one or two dates."
As time progressed, nothing blossomed between the two. In 1977, Levy got hitched to his wife, screenwriter Deborah Divine. O'Hara has worked with Levy over the years despite them never pursuing a romantic relationship.

Before finding foot in Hollywood, she had minor roles in several movies before being cast as Delia in "Beetlejuice," a talentless sculptor. While filming the movie, she constantly complained to the director, Tim Burton, about the attractive production designer, Bo Welch, who never asked her out.
Following her efforts, Burton decided to talk to Welch and told him to ask her out. To which he replied: "What?" He was stunned by that suggestion because he did not know he could communicate with actors. Nonetheless, he did as he was told and finally asked O'Hara out, and the two started dating afterward. They have been together ever since.
When speaking about being part of the "Beetlejuice" movie, Welch said: "My memories of 'Beetlejuice' are very fond, of course. Not to mention, I met my wife [Catherine O'Hara], who was in it."

In a January 2019 interview, Welch's beloved partner dished on her decision to move to Hollywood from her native country. When asked whether she had any intentions of relocating to the US before finding success in the country, she revealed she only decided to uproot because of love:
"Well, I was in 'Beetlejuice,' and the production designer, Bo Welch, was attractive, and he finally asked me out. We went on location at the end of the movie, and we started dating. I moved to LA to be with him."
The couple tied the knot in 1992. In March 2023, O'Hara gave a glimpse into their life as a married pair, sharing she and her darling spouse have fun morning conversations at 5:30 a.m.
O'Hara, who celebrated her 69th birthday on March 4, 2023, divulged Welch would take her out to mark the special occasion over dinner. When the pair were still dating, the Pennsylvania native threw his then-girlfriend a birthday party.

The art director not only pays knows how to celebrate his wife, but he is funny too. When the duo attended the 12th Annual Critics' Choice Awards after party at Viceroy Hotel in California, they were photographed having fun together.
From the picture, O'Hara seemed to be laughing hysterically with her hand placed on her beloved husband's chest as he, too, appeared jovial while saying something funny.
The BAFTA Award winner is also affectionate with his love. He was pictured placing his hand on his wife while they posed for a group photo alongside Martin Short and his partner at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on February 25, 2007. The foursome wore all-black matching outfits for the event and were all smiles.
Welch and his famous wife share two children, sons Luke and Matthew, who followed in their creative footsteps. Matthew is the couple's eldest child and was born in 1994.

Not much is known about him because he has stayed away from the limelight his whole life. However, he and his brother worked alongside their mom on the set of "Schitt's Creek." One worked as a dresser, and the other helped construct the sets.
Luke worked as an office production assistant on several episodes of the show in 2019, something his mom enjoyed because she had the opportunity to work with him and Matthew. The doting mom admitted to envying her on-screen character because she spent more time with her adult sons. Whereas she always wonders where they might be.
O'Hara was always a working mom when her kids, now 26 and 29, were growing up, and she hardly spent much time with them. She and Welch welcomed their youngest son Luke in 1997. Like his older sibling, he, too, leads a private life and does not have a social media presence.
In a June 2007 interview, his mother spoke candidly about him and his brother, revealing they have a good sense of humor and that she and their father motivate them to keep at it.

The mother of two explained her firstborn, then 13, enjoyed re-enacting cartoons from Warner Bros while her then-10-year-old did wordplay instead, adding:
"I'm proud to say, we all make each other laugh. Like in my home, growing up. I learned that from my parents. They made each other laugh to the end, God bless them. How great is that?"
O'Hara and her husband and kids have family traditions. In November 2021, she revealed they keep a "fresh" Christmas tree until February. The family matriarch also enjoys baking.
As a child, she and her parents and six siblings had many grand Christmas celebrations. Their father would dress up as Santa Claus and would go outside and pretend to be him.

The couple would purchase holiday pajamas for the kids, and the mom would go into their rooms and say. "Oh, Santa's here," O'Hara recalled.
She continued those traditions with her sons for several years. "My husband and I, he'd go outside and ring the bell [as the kids listened from behind the locked door]. I bet they’ll still go along with it if I asked them," said the loving mom.
Welch Is a Funny, Attentive & Supportive Husband
Despite making each other laugh, Welch is not too comfortable with making public appearances with his Emmy Award-winning wife, but he goes everywhere with her.
When O'Hara appeared on "Watch What Happens Live!" in February 2015, she shared they went to a Martin Mull art opening and bumped into her former co-star, Culkin.
"He was coming out, and he went, 'Mommy,' and I was like, 'Baby,' and my husband, who is usually cool about these things, said okay, you two get together. I'll get a picture," she recalled during the interview.
Welch is always by his wife's side and was there when she won her Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021. It was a virtual ceremony, and the Emmy nominee had an applause track ready for his spouse.
Seeing the lovebirds love joking around, he took out his phone to play the sound effect. There was also orchestral music to play her off-stage if she started rambling during her acceptance speech.
However, the two encountered technical issues because it did not translate too well on the remote broadcast. But it was a fun-loving moment to show how much O'Hara and the Oscar-nominated set designer still have a blast creating comedy together.
Fans commented on Welch's joke on Twitter. One social media user posted the clip from the ceremony showing the father of two playing the music while O'Hara was busy with her speech and wrote: "Congrats#CatherineOhara! And and and and a bit too!!"
Another Twitter user expressed, "I love this chaotic gag Catherine O’Hara’s husband is doing.#GoldenGlobes." A third person stated, "I appreciate that Catherine O’Hara commits to gags during her acceptance speech, even if that one was pure chaos. We stan!#GoldenGlobes."
During the Critic's Choice Awards, which took place in March 2021, the couple had yet another hilarious moment when O'Hara kissed her husband and left red lipstick on his face throughout her speech.
She kissed him after presenters Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley from "This Is Us," announced that she had bagged the prestigious award. Following her win, O'Hara turned to her spouse and did a funny double-take at the lipstick, leading him to ask, "What?" and she answered, "Nothing."
For the momentous occasion, the "Penelope" star donned a black Elie Saab dress with a plunging neckline and puffy sleeves and accessorized with a pendant around her neck. Meanwhile, Welch wore a navy-blue suit with a blue-and-white patterned shirt.
The famed actress's comedic abilities date back to her childhood years. Born in 1954 in Toronto, Ontario, and growing up in the suburb called Etobicoke, the TV star's large family was playful.
O'Hara is the youngest of seven children, and among her and her many siblings, she is the most cheerful. "Everybody in my family's funny. Being funny was highly encouraged in our family. I think," she once divulged.
That same experience as a kid later bore her love for comedy, and she ultimately chose a comedic career. Moreover, the family dynamics the renowned star previously experienced allowed her to develop a passion for working with others; hence she never did one-woman shows.

The "Surviving Christmas" star credited her parents for her comedic style and disclosed her dad preferred jokes while her mom enjoyed imitating others. That said, she picked up her mother's talent for impersonations.
She would impersonate people, and her father would burst into laughter. O'Hara also picked up some comedy style from her beloved dad and described him as charming and reserved.
The Award-winning star shared that although her parent worked a normal and boring desk job, he would return home with some funny jokes. Having said that, O'Hara admitted she is a mix of both her mom and dad.
