'I Had No Idea': Jimmy Carter Impress Fans with His Artistic Talent as a Painter
Aside from serving as one of America's presidents, Jimmy Carter is also a talented painter. In a recent Instagram post, the former president's Instagram account gave fans a look at one of his paintings, one of which sold for over half a million dollars.
In April, Carter's Instagram account posted side-by-side photos of a Belted Kingfisher, a bird commonly found near bodies of water, and a beautifully done painting of a female version of the same bird by Carter. "Jimmy Carter has created many paintings often focused on nature and his surroundings. Here's an example of his amazing skill," the caption read in part.
In the comments section, fans praised the former US president, with one person writing, "Is there anything this man can't do?" "That's beautiful. Honestly, I had no idea he painted, too. I need to do more with my life. Respect," another user shared, and a third commented, "Amazing! Did not know he painted (sic)."
In 2017, during a silent auction held by Carter's foundation, The Carter Centre, over $2.7 million was raised. Of the donations, an unidentified bidder paid over $525, 000 for one of Carter's oil paintings, "Monarchs and Milkweed."
After turning 98 in 2022— which he celebrated with his family and received birthday wishes from the public— Carter became the oldest living former president of the USA. Since the end of his term as the leader of America, Carter had dedicated his life to philanthropic projects and lives out of the public eye.
When relocating to his hometown of Georgia, the painter became the only president to move back to the home he lived in before entering politics. The "good ol' Southern gentleman" and his wife live humble lives in a two-bedroom rancher, and he has become well-known in his community as a "nice" and "regular" church-goer.
Aside from being a former president, Carter and his wife are also parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. "Our family brings us together. We have about 43 grandchildren and great-grandchildren... our interest in our children and grandchildren is one of our motivations," he said.
When they aren't with their family, Jimmy Carter spends his days relaxing— and occasionally helping his wife in the kitchen, he added. However, despite their old age, Carter and his wife have shown no signs of slowing down. "We try to find things to do together. We have always done that," Carter's wife shared.
