Roseanne Barr is an actress and comedian known for being fearless in expressing her opinions, no matter how controversial.

However, the actress has kept a low profile since she flooded the media with the controversy surrounding her racist tweets. She's been focused on her family life and being a good grandmother.

Barr is a mother of five and a grandmother of seven, but when she was 18, she fell pregnant, and due to her unsafe living conditions, she gave up the child for adoption.

Her Firstborn's Adoption and Their Reunion

Barr fell pregnant when she was 17 and gave birth to a baby girl on May 16, 1971. The actress confessed that she initially wanted to keep the baby. She signed herself up for welfare and rented out a room for $50 a month.

However, roaches came out when she opened the tap, and the neighborhood was noisy from all the drunks. That was when Barr knew she nor her baby could not live in that environment.

She traveled to Denver and moved into a salvation army for unwed mothers; unfortunately, she did not have much support from her parents either.

So, she gave up her child for adoption, and the baby was taken in by a Jewish family who named her Brandi Brown. Her adoptive parents were Gail and Stanley Brown, but what was surprising was that Gail's mother and Barr's mother were best friends.

The comedian remembered the day the family came to fetch Brandi, and she whispered, "You remember this; I will see you when you are 18."

Fast forward 17 years later, Barr was contacted by a tabloid about her daughter after they found her birth certificate. The actress was not pleased. She didn't want her daughter to learn about her through the tabloids.

But the actress knew her Brandi would most likely try to find her when she was 17, and even told her children about her.

The actress confessed that the tabloids found out where Brandi lived and went to school, and they tormented her parents. She asked them to stay away until she took matters into her own hands and hired a private detective to track Brandi down.

Barr said Brandi was told her mother was someone famous, but the actress did not want her daughter to know about her through tabloids.

The reunion of the mother and daughter was emotional. She was with her sister, and they waited for Brandi and her parents to arrive at a hotel lobby.

As they waited, Barr got impatient and suggested she and her sister go for coffee, but just as they were about to leave, Brandi walked in.

There was an instant connection as soon as Brandi and Barr locked eyes. They ran toward each other and embraced in a long tight hug, and the actress told her how much she missed her.

Barr was impressed with the person Brandi grew up to be. She said her daughter looked like her but with blonde hair, and she also noticed several similarities between Brandi and her other children. To top it off, Brandi also pursued acting.

How the Mom of 5 Prepared Her Kids Before Meeting Their Half-Sibling

After having to let go of her first child, Barr married her first husband, Bill Pentland, in 1974. The couple welcomed their first child Jessica in 1975; the following year, their second born, Jennifer, arrived, and their youngest son Jake was born in 1978.

The couple stayed together for 16 years before ending their marriage in 1990, two years after Barr reconnected with her daughter Brandi, in 1988.

After ending things with Pentland, Barr moved on with Tom Arnold the same year of her divorce. The two did not have children, as the marriage was short-lived.

They went their separate ways after four years, and for a while, Barr was a single parent until she married her third husband, Ben Thomas.

Thomas and Barr welcomed a son, Buck, through IVF in 1995, but their marriage ended in 2002, yet she continued to be a dedicated mother. Then the actress found love again with Johnny Argent, who has been her long-time partner since.

The eldest of Barr's children with Pentland, Jessica, built a profile as a producer. Jessica helped write the episode "Childhood Thoughts" for her mother's show "Roseanne," and also had production credits in "Black Girls," "Heart Charlie," and "The Real Roseanne Show."

Likewise, Jake followed in his mother's footsteps with several editing, producing, and writing credits in many of his mother's projects, such as "Roseanne Barr: Blonde and Bitchin'."
