Gina Belafonte Mourns Her 'Complicated Father' Harry Belafonte: 'Love You Dad and So Much More'

Singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte has died aged 96. His daughter, Gina Belafonte, took to her Instagram page to mourn her father in a long heartfelt tribute.

Harry Belafonte's daughter penned a touching tribute to her late father in her recent Instagram posts. "Love you Dad," she captioned, in one post alongside a photo of her and her father.

In another post, Gina shared the same picture and wrote a heartfelt tribute remembering her father and appreciating the life lessons he taught her.

"You taught me so much about life, what to do and what not to do. You were a complicated father who lived one of the fullest lives in human history," she wrote.

Gina then appreciated her time with her father and his love for her. She then ended her post by acknowledging her father's contributions and noting that he lived his life purposefully.

Harry Belafonte died on April 25, 2023, aged 96. His publicist, Ken Sunshine, revealed the "Banana Boat" singer died following congestive heart failure. Besides singing, he was an accomplished actor and an activist who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Gina Belafonte followed in her father's footsteps. She is an actress and producer known for the crime series "The Commish," the 1998 comedy film "Operation Splitsville," and the 2018 Oscar award-winning film "BlacKkKlansman," which featured Hollywood stars like Alec Baldwin and John David Washington.

Harry Belafonte's daughter is also an activist. Based on her website, she is the co-founder of Sankofa.org. Since its inception in 2013, the organization has been on the front line of fighting for justice and has thousands of members.

Harry's three other children also have successful careers. His eldest daughter Adrienne Belafonte is an executive director of the Anir Foundation, an organization that gives volunteer opportunities in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Harry Belafonte's daughter, Shari Belafonte, was born in 1954. She is an actress and has starred in several movies and TV series.

The singer's only son David Belafonte was born in 1957. He also pursued a career in the entertainment industry. Besides that, David served as the Vice president of Belafonte Enterprises, an entertainment publishing company founded by Harry.
