Since rising to fame, many have asked, "Is Dan Levy Gay?" The famous producer has been open about his coming out story and experience as a gay person in an exclusive workplace.

Canadian actor Daniel Levy, better known as Dan Levy, is a man of many talents in the entertainment industry. He has worked in front of the camera as an actor and behind the scenes as a writer, showrunner, director, and producer.

His passion for film translated into business by launching his production company, Not a Real Production Company. Although his talents have been recognized with multiple Emmy awards, Levy's experience in the film industry was not without challenges. One of these was his facing homophobia.

Dan Levy Talked about Coming Out to His Parents

As a gay person, coming out wasn't always easy for Levy. However, he is fortunate to have understanding and supportive parents. The producer first came out to his parents at around 18, and, as he recalled, it was as if they already knew.

During an interview Levy's father revealed they waited for their son to be ready. However, Levy's mom could no longer wait and asked if he was gay, as he said:

"My mom asked me over for lunch one day, and I said, 'Yes.' [...] It felt like she knew that I was ready."

Dan Opened Up about Facing Homophobia in His Career

Levy, who began his career on Canada's "MTV Live," didn't feel he had the luxury to unmask his true identity on the show. At that time, there weren't as many gay actors thriving in their work, making him hesitant to come out.

The LGBTQ+ community wasn't as active back then as today, and insensitive homophobic comments were prevalent. He recalled not having an inclusive work environment:

"I remember walking into work one day, and someone asked me what I did on the weekend. I said, 'Well, I installed a dimmer switch in my apartment.' And that person said, 'Wow, it's almost like you're a real man.'"

Times have changed, and Levy is now comfortable talking about his past experiences and being his true self.

Dan Levy Talks about the Challenge of Finding Love While Pursuing His Dreams

In 2020, Levy revealed he was ready to date more. However, his circumstances played a part in deciding whether dating was the right choice. According to the actor, he already had a full plate, given his career. So making room for a person in his life was questionable.

"You're basically saying, 'Do I want to carve out the space in an already full and fulfilled life for this person? And a lot of the time, the answer is no," he shared.

In 2015, Levy admitted that his career consumed his life, and he wanted to focus on building a name for himself. Still, he hoped someone would come along when his goals were accomplished.

Fans became more curious about Dan Levy's dating life as time passed. However, he has been private about his romantic pursuits.

Levy has already cemented himself as a Hollywood mainstay with several credits. His production company debuted a successful HBO Max show, "The Big Brunch," which Levy also hosted and created. He also co-created the multi-award-winning "Schitt's Creek" series alongside his father.

As an actor, he is set to appear in "The Idol" alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Blackpink's Jennie Kim, and The Weeknd. Levy will also join the "Sex Education" cast for its 4th season and Disney's "Haunted Mansion" remake.
