Melissa turns 59 and says it feels like heaven. Taking to social media to thank fans for their birthday wishes, she also shared an adorable snap. In the photo, Melissa Gilbert's granddaughter Ripley Lou Brinkman had fallen asleep on her chest, with the little face hidden behind a big heart emoji.

Little Ripley Lou was born on June 9, 2021, at 6:18 p.m. central time to Melissa's son Dakota and his wife, Marissa Brinkman. Melissa noted that Marissa behaved like a real warrior in labor, and her husband was a perfect partner to her.

At birth, little Ripley weighed 7lbs 7oz and was just 19.5 inches long. However, she and her mother were healthy and doing well following the birth. Melissa couldn't wait to reach Texas to meet her newborn granddaughter for the first time.

The "Little House on the Prairie" star actually always wanted to become a grandmother, and she finally did at 57. Gilbert loves having children and misses being with little kids, as her own are now all grown up already.

Melissa's only wish is to live closer to her granddaughter. She even joked she'd move to her son's house. But she won't do it because "she doesn't want to overstay her welcome."

Melissa Gilbert is a mother to 2 sons and 5 stepchildren. Her firstborn, Dakota Brinkman, was born during her first marriage to Bo Brinkman. Later, Melissa tied the knot with Bruce Boxleitner and gave birth to her second child, Michael Boxleitner.
