A four-year-old girl recently helped investigators solve a home invasion case by clearing up some details her babysitter falsely confirmed with police officers on the scene.

Abby helped ensure that her neighbor was safe and that the actual suspects were caught. She also helped retrieve everything the thieves stole from her family home.

In 2014, Abby and her babysitter were the only ones home when two men broke in. Recalling the incident, Abby shared:

"Wednesday was the worst day in my life."

The young girl confirmed that the people who had come into her home had told her and her babysitter to get out of the house because they wanted to steal their things. "The bad guys stole my kitty bank; they stole my iPod," she recounted.

When the police came, her babysitter gave a description of the people who had entered the home and stolen the family's belongings. But it was Abby who ultimately helped investigators crack the case.

How Did the Babysitter Describe the Situation?

Abby said that the home invaders had ordered her and her babysitter to leave the house, which the babysitter confirmed. However, the pair did not agree on the description of the invaders.

The babysitter told authorities that the home invaders were two armed black men. She went on to say that one of the men who broke into the Ferndale home looked like the neighbor next door, Cody Oaks. This led officers to handcuff and question Oaks at length.

However, Abby knew what she saw and told the police. She also revealed what she thought of her babysitter later:

"I [thought] about that was really her being bad. She's not a good babysitter."

How Did the Little Girl Solve the Case?

After her babysitter told her version of the story to authorities, Abby knew that she had to clear things up and tell the truth as she witnessed it. Revealing her X-Box and Wii gaming consoles were also stolen, little Abby clarified that her babysitter's description of the home invaders was incorrect because "it wasn't the right skin color." While her babysitter had said the home invaders were black men, Abby confirmed they were white.

After Abby told investigators that her babysitter's description of the suspects didn't match her recollection, the babysitter knew her story was collapsing and confessed to being party to the crime.

Investigators learned that the 17-year-old babysitter was working with her 16-year-old boyfriend and another white male to rob the home. Then she made up the story about two armed black men carrying out the robbery.

Meanwhile, Abby's astonished mother wondered why her babysitter would involve her child in such a dangerous situation, but she was proud of Abby for her honesty. She gushed:

"Literally in 30 seconds, she changed everything that had been going on for five, six hours."

Abby's neighbor, Oaks, who was suspected of the crime, was also proud of Abby. However, he also expressed disappointment to have been used as a convenient scapegoat for a crime he didn't commit.

Oaks didn't think the babysitter understood the precarious situation she had put him in. He confirmed that there had been a sniper in a tree outside his home, and his family had been affected by the false accusation.

Once the police knew who had actually committed the crime, they were able to retrieve all the family's belongings, after which Abby proudly proclaimed:

"They got it back because of me being a superhero."

When asked by news teams if she would like to be a detective when she grows up, Abby said she didn't think so because what she really wanted to be was a doctor.

Abby's babysitter and her accomplices were arrested shortly after the babysitter confessed to the crime. They faced robbery, burglary, and perjury charges.

Meanwhile, the little "superhero" was the talk of her town and a few others after she botched her babysitter's criminal plans. Many couldn't believe that such a young girl would be able to help solve an investigation.
