‘Something Is Wrong with Her’: People Slam Mom for Her Baby’s Appearance after She Struggled to Welcome Him
It was a long and tough journey before Jennisan finally welcomed her son. Still, she suffered harsh criticism after his birth, with people blaming her for her son's abnormalities. Despite this, her love for her son and motherhood never wavered.
Jennisan Enriquez gave birth to her son Jayden at 19 and found herself raising him alone after parting ways with his father. However, with the unwavering support of her parents, she was able to focus on providing her son with the very best.
Even though Jennisan wasn’t actively seeking a new relationship, her life took an unexpected turn when she crossed paths with her future husband, Clint, while working in the Bahamas in 2015. It was love at first sight, and they quickly became inseparable.
As their relationship blossomed, Jennisan and Clint began discussing the possibility of expanding their family. Jennisan approached the matter with great responsibility and decided to have her reproductive system checked first. While the results revealed that Jennisan was facing some issues, she refused to let this setback crush her dreams of having a happy and loving family.
However, life dealt Jennisan and Clint a new challenge when tragedy struck on September 1, 2019. Hurricane Dorian made landfall on the island where they were staying, causing devastation and destruction in its wake.
Jennisan and her son Jayden were separated during the storm, and she was left to pray for his safety. With a heavy heart, she begged God to spare them and their home, pleading, "Father, I beg you to spare us. Spare our home! Don't abandon us."
Jennisan bravely navigated the ruined streets of the island, her heart consumed by thoughts of her beloved son. Everywhere she looked, the heartbreaking scene of lifeless bodies surrounded her.
Despite the devastating circumstances, Jennisan refused to give up hope. She wept for the loss and destruction that surrounded her but remained steadfast in her faith. After three long and painful days of waiting, she received the news she had been praying for—her cherished son was alive.
Jennisan and Clint made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend their attempts to expand their family due to financial hardships. However, fate had other plans in store for them when Jennisan received a positive pregnancy test. The couple was overjoyed, but their journey was not without its challenges.
At 7 weeks, Jennisan began to bleed, and without any obstetricians or gynecologists on the island which was still recovering from the storm, she consulted with a family doctor instead. Luckily, the doctor had an ultrasound machine that was recently donated to him and they used this to check on Jennisan's pregnancy.
To Jennisan's dismay, the doctor was unable to detect any signs of the baby. However, she and Clint did not give up hope. They decided to fly to see Jennisan's OBGYN and seek a second opinion. Fortunately, the baby registered a heartbeat, bringing immense relief and joy to Jennisan and Clint.
As the time for the birth approached, Clint was unable to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions. Jennisan tested positive for the virus which meant Clint couldn't join her for the birth. He drove Jennisan to the hospital and they parted ways, leaving Jennisan extremely nervous, knowing she would need to undergo a Cesarean section, and she was alone.
Finally, she heard the sound of her newborn son's cries, and a smile spread across her face as she turned to the nurse holding him. However, the joyous moment was short-lived as the room suddenly fell silent, and Jennisan sensed that something was amiss.
Jennisan's joy turned to panic as she realized her newborn son wasn't breathing. The doctors sprang into action, frantically working to resuscitate the infant. After a tense few minutes, the baby let out a cry and began to breathe on his own.
But the ordeal was far from over. The doctor approached Jennisan and delivered the news: "Are you aware that your son was born with abnormalities?" The baby was missing fingers on both hands and had a deformed right foot.
Right after his birth, the baby, Harrison, was taken from Jennisan because she had COVID-19. She could not cuddle or breastfeed him. Harrison was diagnosed with symbrachydactyly, syndactyly, fibular hemimelia, proximal femoral focal deficiency, and humeroradial synostosis.
But for Jennisan, none of that mattered. To her, Harrison was perfect just the way he was. As a loving and devoted mother, she saw no difference in her love for her son, regardless of his physical differences. She called him "My special prince" and "A blessing".
Jennisan was overwhelmed with gratitude as she received an outpouring of love and encouragement from her family, as well as from Clint. And after weeks of anxious waiting, the time finally came to take little Harrison home.
However, not all people were so kind. Jennisan and Clint had to endure hurtful comments concerning Harrison. "He was born that way because of his mother. It’s gotta be her genes, something is wrong with her," people said, making it very hard for them.
Fortunately, there were many more words of encouragement. Despite all the difficulties, Jennisan continued to love and nurture her son with care in every way possible.
Unconditional love means loving your children for who they are, not for what they do or don't do, and that includes loving them despite any challenges or difficulties they may face.
