During the discussion, the Rhode founder explained that doctors had previously warned her about a medical condition that could potentially complicate pregnancy.

"I had a septum in my uterus, and Dr. [Thaïs Aliabadi] kept saying, 'Well, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue,'" Hailey said.

During the conversation, Hailey explained that doctors had previously warned her she might need a minor surgery because of a septum in her uterus.

"I was like, 'Okay. Well, I'm not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so we'll just cross that bridge when we get there.' And then I magically got pregnant," she said. "It was a surprise."

Hailey's doctor also recalled her reaction when she shared the news. "She's like, 'I'm pregnant!' And I'm like, 'No!'" Dr. Aliabadi said.

Aliabadi explained that she initially felt concerned because Hailey had a moderate uterine septum, a condition that increased her risk of miscarriage to 25 to 40 percent and raised the likelihood of preterm delivery from 10 to 20 percent.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a septate uterus is a structural condition in which a thin membrane, known as a septum, separates the uterus into two sections.

Normally, the uterus forms as one open cavity. In cases of a septate uterus, however, a band of tissue remains in the middle, dividing the space into two smaller areas. The size of this dividing wall can vary; in some people, it only partially separates the uterus, while in others it extends further.

The condition develops before birth during fetal growth, when the uterus does not fully merge into a single cavity.

Because a septate uterus often does not cause noticeable symptoms, many individuals are unaware they have it. Doctors sometimes discover the condition only when investigating fertility challenges or repeated pregnancy loss.

Although uncommon, it is still considered one of the more frequently diagnosed uterine abnormalities, affecting roughly 1.5 percent of women.

Medical experts note that the condition can increase certain pregnancy risks, including miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, or the baby being in a breech position. Even so, many people with a septate uterus are still able to carry pregnancies successfully.

Healthcare providers typically confirm the condition using imaging methods such as ultrasound scans, MRI, or hysteroscopy, which allow them to see the uterus more clearly.

In some cases, doctors may recommend a procedure to remove the septum, which can restore the uterus to a single cavity and potentially improve pregnancy outcomes.

Despite the potential risks, Hailey's story would soon lead to a joyful milestone.
