"I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a dress because I had the mindset I'm gonna wear this one time for a few hours," Kiara said. That was Kiara's charm in a nutshell: practical, confident, and not afraid to challenge the idea that love has to look expensive to be meaningful.

The couple saved money in other ways, too. Kiara recalled that family members gifted items such as flowers and a runner. They also found a free location right off one of California's freeways.

Additionally, guests paid for their own food and drinks at the reception. Kiara also explained that pulling off a wedding on a budget required truly supportive loved ones.

The fundraiser says Joel and Kiara had been married for four years and were expecting Jonah in June. They were also in the middle of a major life transition: The couple had been moving from West Virginia back to California to make a new home for their growing family.

Then came the tragedy. "Unexpectedly, Kiara went to her Heavenly home while Baby Jonah entered his earthly home," the message states. That single sentence has become the heartbreaking center of Kiara's story.

Her baby boy arrived, but his mother did not get to begin the next chapter with him. The fundraiser says Jonah is currently in the NICU and has begun "his long journey to grow stronger and healthier each day."

"Jonah is a cutie and a fighter and by God's grace and POWER we know he will astound the doctors with his daily progress," the fundraiser continues. The message also explains that the tragedy has taken a devastating toll on Joel.

Joel is now facing life as an only parent to a premature baby in the NICU while grieving the loss of the wife he loved deeply.
