The songstress has lived in Switzerland with her second husband, Erwin Bach, since 1994. She earned her Swiss citizenship in 2013, and she and Bach lived happily together until her death.

How Did Turner's Husband Save Her Life?

Turner suffered through a marriage where she was abused for many years. When she finally left that marriage, she kept away from men for a while. However, talking about why she was ready to be with Bach, she said:

"I really needed to love. I needed to love a person."

Turner and Bach met in 1985 when Bach picked Turner up from an airport. Turner felt an instant connection. She thought he had a pretty face and felt their souls had connected, with her hands beginning to sweat.

She said she should have been too tired from her flight to notice Bach, but she felt compelled by her heart that she should get to know him. For Bach, the connection took a while longer.

He was a young music executive at EMI and said that when he picked Turner up from the airport, he was working and focused solely on working. Yet, he said he wasn't nervous to meet the mega-star.

Soon after meeting, Bach heard that Turner was interested in him and visited her in Nashville. Talking about when their relationship began, Turner recalled:

"He was so different. So laid-back. So comfortable. So unpretentious."

When discussing their relationship, Bach said they both loved one another and referred to their love as "an electrical charge." He said he always feels warm in his heart about their relationship.

The couple loved one another so fiercely that Bach donated an organ to Turner when she needed it. By 2017, Turner had survived intestinal cancer and a stroke but was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2016.

When discussing what doctors told her she could do and what would save her life, Turner said she had two choices. She could either do dialysis, or she could have a kidney transplant.

Both treatments would help Turner recover somewhat, but Turner knew only one choice would give her the life she wanted. She revealed:

"Only the transplant would give me a good chance of a near-normal life. But the chances of getting a donor's kidney were remote."

Turner even considered ending her life through assisted suicide, but Bach interjected, telling her he did not want another woman or another life if it was not Turner. He then told her he wanted to donate his kidney to her.

Although initially shocked and overwhelmed by his offer when the surgery was a success, Turner was happy and relieved that they had both come out of the surgeries alive and well.
