In an era without advanced medical imaging, Duncan underwent a ten-hour surgery to access and remove the tumor. Unfortunately, her optic nerve was severed during the procedure, resulting in complete blindness in her left eye. Regarding her terrifying condition, she shared:

"I have holes and scars all over the place... I had to wear a wig for almost a year."

Despite her traumatic experience, Duncan remained resilient, refusing to succumb to self-pity or bitterness. She continued to pursue her career, defying the odds and landing prominent roles, including the iconic portrayal of "Peter Pan" on stage.

The "Star Spangled Girl" alum has been married thrice in her life. Her first was to rock 'n' roll singer Bruce Scott in 1971. However, the couple's differences led to their divorce after three years. In 1973, she wed ophthalmologist, Dr. Thomas Calcaterra, seeking a more stable partnership, but their relationship also ended due to a mismatch.

Although Duncan scaled back her career to prioritize her children and enjoy more quality time with them, her husband, Correia, continued to appreciate and cherish her.

Undoubtedly, the third time had its charm for Duncan because she found lasting love and happiness with dancer and choreographer Don Correia. The pair shared a dance in a nightclub on their first encounter and walked down the aisle in 1980.

They have been together for 45 years and married for an impressive 43. Even today, the couple is going strong in their relationship and are doting parents to two sons: Jeffrey, born in 1982, and Michael, born in 1984.
