Pierce Brosnan Had to Cut off Son He Raised after Wife’s Death – It Took Years for Them to Finally Talk
- Pierce Brosnan is a popular Irish-American actor best known for his role as the British Secret Agent James Bond.
- Before finding lifelong love with Keely Smith, he was first married to Cassandra Harris until her death. He adopted his wife's children from her first marriage.
- Brosnan and his son Christopher had a rift, and the actor cut him off. However, after 15 years, they finally spoke again.
Pierce Brosnan had humble beginnings as a boy, having had no relationship with his biological father after he left the family while Brosnan was a child. His grandparents and relatives raised him until he was 10.
Then, his mother took him to live in London, where she married Bill Carmichael. His mother only got married after getting his blessing, and Carmichael ended up being the only father figure in Brosnan's life.

Years after trying to make a name for himself, Brosnan is now widely known as the iconic British spy James Bond. He was previously married to Cassandra Harris for 11 years, and together, they raised three children - Sean, their son, and Harris' older children, Christopher and Charlotte.
The actor adopted his wife's children from his first marriage to producer Dermot Harris, the brother of famous actor Richard Harris. When Dermot passed away from a heart attack in 1986, Brosnan stepped in as Christopher and Charlotte's dad and raised them as his own.
The actor legally adopted the two children, and they took his last name. The Brosnans were a happy family, but something tragic happened that changed the course of their lives forever.

Harris passed away from an aggressive form of ovarian cancer in 1991. She had always envisioned her husband taking on the role of James Bond, for which she believed he was well-suited. Unfortunately, she died before seeing this dream come to fruition.
After mourning his late wife for a few years, Brosnan met Keely Shaye Smith while on vacation in Mexico. Their connection was undeniable, and they fell in love with one another.
Brosnan and Smith married in a luxurious wedding in 2001 and share two sons, Dylan Thomas, and Paris Beckett. Brosnan also raised Christopher, Charlotte, and Sean for years as a dedicated single dad.

Losing his first wife was devastating for Brosnan, who credited her for shaping him into the person he was. His family suffered another blow when in 2013, his daughter Charlotte died of ovarian cancer, 22 years after her mother.
Brosnan cherishes his role as a loving father to all five of his children. He values his time with them, knowing how precious it is.
However, despite being an all-around family man, one particular circumstance caused him to cut one of his children off in the early 2000s. That child was his adopted son Christopher.

Brosnan's Complicated Relationship with Christopher
Christopher struggled with drug addiction for years. Brosnan tried his best to save him from spiraling, but he eventually admitted defeat and had no choice but to cut his son off.
Christopher did not take his mother's death lightly. His life spiraled out of control, and by 1997, he was given a three-month sentence for drinking and driving.

Through the years, Brosnan kept his son at arm's length. They stopped communicating, and Brosnan cut him off, saying:
"It's painful because you shut down. You never completely cut them off, but I have cut Christopher off. I had to say 'Go. Get busy living, or get busy dying.' He has my prayers."
Despite claiming to have cut Christopher off, Brosnan didn't shut the door on his son completely. In the past couple of years, the father and son have been spotted together a handful of times.

Before he struggled with addiction, Christopher had a promising career path. He took up screenwriting at UCLA and directing at the New York Film Academy.
During his career, he worked on several of his dad's films as an assistant director. Some of his most notable works include "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough," and "The Thomas Crown Affair."
Despite news of Christopher and his father being estranged, the actor himself made it clear that they've sorted out their differences.

In 2006, two years after his dad cut him off, he appeared on the reality TV show "Celebrity Love Island." Since then, he's gone off the radar and has chosen to live a private life.
In 2019, Christopher was spotted in London wearing three different pairs of eyeglasses on his body. He had one on his head, one on his eyes, and one hung on his shirt.

A year later, Christopher was seen walking down Notting Hill in London, keeping himself busy with his phone. At the time, it had been 15 years since Brosnan cut him off.
Despite news of Christopher and his father being estranged, the actor himself made it clear that they've sorted out their differences. He revealed he and Christopher share "a loving communication" after being estranged for years.
During Father's Day 2022, Brosnan included Christopher in his post's caption, despite the photo only featuring him and his three sons, Dylan, Paris, and Sean. "My love forever to you dear sons, Paris, Dylan, Sean, and Christopher, thank you deeply for your love," he wrote.
Nowadays, Brosnan has channeled his energy towards becoming a better father and grandfather. His son now has kids of his own, and his later daughter Charlotte had children as well.
"I'm a proud grandfather now. There's still a lot of life in the old man, and I'll keep going [until] I can go no more. Life is so precious," he once gushed.
Rather than focusing on the past, Brosnan has mindfully tried to enjoy each moment with his family. He often shares bits and pieces of their lives on Instagram, filled with precious milestones, tropical vacations, and a whole lot of love.
