International singing sensation John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, welcomed a baby boy via a surrogate on June 19. The newborn is the couple's fourth child and his name honors parents' surrogate, Alexandra. His name is Wren Alexander Stephens and he was born just five months after the couple's daughter, Esti Stephens, had joined the family.

The announcement of baby Wren's arrival came from an Instagram post made by Teigen on Wednesday. In the lengthy post, the model revealed how she and her husband had started pursuing surrogacy options in 2021.

Teigen explained that they were initially searching for tandem surrogates so they could welcome two children simultaneously. But Teigen later realized she still wanted to try and carry a child, so she started the IVF process and the first attempt was successful, resulting in baby Esti.

Meanwhile, the couple continued to search for the perfect surrogate and eventually met Alexandra, whom Teigen is particularly fond of. After a failed first attempt, Alexandra finally got pregnant, and the couple was over the moon to learn that Alexandra was carrying a baby boy.

Both Teigen and Alexandra were pregnant simultaneously, though Teigen was ahead by a few months. In her extended announcement post, she divulged how she had always desired to have four children. Thus, when Wren arrived, she expressed how full she and her husband's hearts and home are:

"We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra. And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens."

The couple is ecstatic over the latest addition to their beautiful family, which includes the couple's first two children, Luna and Miles Stephens. Doting dad Legend proudly showed off all four of his cute kids in an Instagram post.

In the first picture, papa Legend is seen sitting on an armchair, surrounded by all his children. While smiling for the camera, he holds both baby Wren and baby Esti, cradled in each arm, as Miles sits partially on his dad's lap and shows off his pearly whites. His sister, Luna, holds her left leg raised in a split and shows the number four on both hands.

What the Couple's Surrogate Had to Say

The relationship between Alexandra and the happy couple is embedded in love and appreciation. Teigen has labeled her as the most compassionate, incredible, and loving surrogate she could ever fathom.

Both Teigen and Legend are incredibly thankful and in awe of Alexandra's selfless sacrifices for the family's journey to have a fourth child. Of her initial encounter with Alexandra, Teigen stated that she knew Alexandra was the perfect match for them from the moment she first spoke with her.

Though it took a while for Teigen to wrap her head around the fact that what she experienced was an abortion instead of a miscarriage, the doting mom was blessed to have gotten the family she always wanted in the long run.

Alexandra and Teigen immediately felt a kinship when they discovered they had much in common. Teigen describes their connection:

"All our wishes and dreams aligned. I wanted to be her friend; I wanted our children to play; I wanted dinner together. I wanted to lay my head on her belly and be able to feel the hiccups and kicks. I wanted them to be in our lives for as long as time would allow."

Chrissy Teigen Had an Abortion That Saved Her Life

In September 2020, Teigen and Legend devastatingly revealed that they lost what would have been their third baby at 20 weeks. Teigen had been experiencing complications during her pregnancy and learned that their unborn child, Jack, wasn't going to make it.

Initially, the couple had announced the loss as a miscarriage. However, while speaking at Propper Daley's "A Day of Unreasonable Conversation" social impact agency summit, Teigen disclosed that when she and Legend lost Jack, what they experienced was actually an abortion instead of a miscarriage. The revelation came as a shock to the mom of four, who hadn't realized what the medical procedure she underwent really was until later on.

At the summit, Teigen spoke about her experience when she realized her son would not make it. The model recalled:

"Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack... I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions. It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive and that I wouldn't either without any medical intervention."

In addition to the fantastic medical care she had, the couple was lucky enough to have a strong and loving support system of friends and family who helped them through the pain of their significant loss. Fans and people who knew of the tragic news showered the model with an outpouring of love and well wishes, which Teigen greatly appreciated as well. While continuing to speak freely of her story, Teigen divulged:

"Let's just call it what it was: It was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby [with] absolutely no chance."

Though it took a while for Teigen to wrap her head around the fact that what she experienced was an abortion instead of a miscarriage, the doting mom was blessed to have gotten the family she always wanted in the long run. She makes no secret of the fact that she is humbly blessed to have welcomed her fourth child and still acknowledges baby Jack and keeps him in her memory forever:

"And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you."

Teigen and Legend are extremely happy about the fourth addition to their beautiful family. After going through such challenging times, devastation, and grief, they have been blessed with the family they always wanted.
