Here Is Why Sheryl Crow Opted For Adoption Instead of Going through Pregnancy Herself – Her Motherhood Journey
Sheryl Crow's opting for adoption came following her breakup with her then-fiance; she decided to pursue adoption as her path to motherhood. The talented singer is a mother of two boys.
Sheryl Crow held a long-standing aspiration to experience motherhood, envisioning what she perceived as the ideal life—a journey marked by encountering a remarkable partner, marriage, homeownership, and having children.
However, Sheryl's dream of having a family fell apart when her wedding to Lance Armstrong, the former professional cyclist, was canceled. Lance, who already had children from a previous relationship, later revealed they broke up following Sheryl's desire to have kids.

It was also during that time that Sheryl was diagnosed with cancer. Despite these hardships, these experiences compelled her to reevaluate her priorities and focus on what truly mattered to her—being a mother.
After completing her breast radiation treatment, Sheryl began the adoption process. She enlisted with a local adoption agency, setting minimal criteria for the child she sought—simply desiring a baby without specific considerations for color, sex, or religious background.
Though the process proved complicated and detailed, Sheryl's unwavering determination prevailed. In 2007, her dream of becoming a mother materialized when she joyously welcomed her son, Wyatt Steven Crow, into her life as a newborn through adoption.
Sheryl shared in an interview that Wyatt's presence profoundly impacted her life, emphasizing that his well-being and happiness were her priority. However, she had to learn to set boundaries with her first child and strike a harmonious balance between providing discipline and showing affection.
Three years after adopting Wyatt, Sheryl's family grew once more as she welcomed her second son, Levi James Crow, through a closed adoption when he was a baby. Initially, when Wyatt turned two, Sheryl had intended to adopt, but she encountered several failed adoption attempts.
Eventually, Levi joined their family at what Sheryl described as the perfect time. She believed that introducing another child when Wyatt was two could have posed challenges to his self-esteem, and therefore, the timing worked out well with Levi's arrival.
In an interview with Hoda Kotb, the Grammy Award winner opened up about motherhood, stating that her sons, who are now in their teens, think she is "not a cool mom anymore." The renowned singer also expressed her deep sense of honor and gratitude that her children chose her to be their mother, just as she chose them.
In a past interview, Sheryl revealed that as much as she would like to adopt more kids, she noted she was content with her family. She said:
"I think our unit is perfect now, and I'm a little bit older to be a mom, and I want to have all the energy that I can have for the two boys."
Sheryl also talked about how her kids have influenced her dating life, revealing that she would love to date a father figure who can genuinely connect with her children and be there for them at their current stage.
Having battled breast cancer in 2006, Sheryl emerged as a survivor. She said that her story is a testament that one can live a long and healthy life after diagnosis. Since entering remission, she has been actively promoting awareness regarding the significance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
Though Sheryl now keeps her love life private, she has been linked with famous names in the past, including the legendary musician Eric Clapton, actor Owen Wilson, "The Good Wife" star Josh Charles, Lance Armstrong, Ryan Seacrest, Hank Azaria, Steve Bing, and Doyle Bramhall II.
In an interview with Howard Stern, Sheryl, who was engaged three times, openly discussed her previous relationships and thanked God for not getting married during those three engagements.
