In early May 2023, Dania Mendez posted a TikTok video of herself enjoying a swim at a beach in the Dominican Republic town of Punta Cana. The influencer donned a brown knitted two-piece with sunglasses, with her long dark her swept to one side.

The clip showed her strolling away from the waves and kneeling on the sand to inscribe the word "Bye." Dania Mendez tagged Peso Pluma in the caption with a brown heart emoji, and the video went viral, immediately leading to dating speculations.

The "Bye" that Mendez inscribed on the sand in her video was the title of the tune that played in the background of the 14-second teaser for Pluma's then-upcoming song and music video.

On the same day Mendez posted the clip, Pluma shared one on his TikTok account in what appeared to be a similar location. Some fans assumed Mendez would be Pluma's love interest in the full music video.

While the rest wondered if the two were more than friends in real life, the Mexican musician proved the speculations right as Mendez was his love interest in the video, and they were seen kissing.

Later in May 2023, Pluma and Mendez were seen holding hands at an airport after flying in from the Dominican Republic, further fueling the dating speculations. Fans took to Twitter to discuss the rumored romance.

One cried, "Peso Pluma has a girlfriend, and it's not me??? BRB, I'm gonna go kms," while another wrote (seemingly throwing shade), "Peso Pluma got money, and the only place he takes his girlfriends are to Disneyland [...]."
