Blind Woman Receives Rude Response Asking Station Employee for Help, Police Officer Intervenes
A law enforcement officer proved that a bit of kindness goes a long way after helping out a blind woman who was turned down when asking for help from someone else at a commuter station.
The New Jersey Transit Police (NJPTD) were proud to show how one of their members, Officer Sean Gallagher, heart-warmingly assisted a blind woman who was helpless at a commuter station.
Under their official Facebook page, the department shared two pictures showing Gallagher and the said woman, a traveler, walking together after he approached her upon learning she needed someone to help her out.
According to the NJTPD, a commuter shared the photos with them, showing one of their officers kindly assisting a blind woman at Newark Penn Station.
The two even had a small chat along the way, and that was when the woman realized who was kind enough to help her out amid her struggle navigating the commuter station. She was left beyond grateful for the kind gesture the officer of the law had shown toward her.
Officer Sean Gallagher to the Rescue
The police department wrote that one commuter witnessed a blind traveler asking for assistance in buying coffee. The woman asked an employee from an outside agency for help, but she got turned down. She received this response, "That's not my job."
That was when Gallagher stepped in to offer the blind traveler some assistance, showing compassion and his duty toward others.
Together, the two made their way around Penn Station while making conversation along the way. Officer Gallagher ensured the traveler eventually got her initial request, her coffee.
"We share this act of kindness as a great reminder. Even a small gesture can make a positive difference in someone's day," the NJTPD captioned their post.
Officer Gallagher recounted his interaction with the traveler during a recent interview with "News 12 New Jersey," sharing he heard about a woman asking for help in the general area while at the station.
Afterward, he walked up to her, asking her how he could assist. That was when Gallagher realized that the woman in question was blind.
He reached out by extending his arm, and she grabbed it. Gallagher divulged that the woman was not even aware that he was a police officer at first. Right then, the traveler told him she needed to get some food and coffee because she was feeling lightheaded, and that was when Gallagher took action.
On their way to get some food, the unnamed woman revealed that the last time she sought help, no one was able to help her get the police involved. However, Gallagher told her that her situation did not necessarily require police attention.
The law enforcement officer said he decided to walk the blind woman to get something to eat at the Dunkin Donuts store. With the mission accomplished, the woman thanked Gallagher for offering to help her out.
Here is another story about another police officer offering nothing but kindness to a young boy who had the community worried when he only wanted to work on their yards.
