Daughter Revokes Mom’s Wedding Invitation after Seeing Her Gift for the Groom

A 25-year-old woman watched her mother make mean comments about her fiancé, Kevin. Despite her continuous efforts to encourage her mom to treat him kindly, she eventually reached a point where she decided her mother wouldn't be part of her wedding unless she apologized to her future husband for the gift she had given him.

The woman and her fiancé, Kevin, were meant to get married in a month. She started her story by stating that her family loved her fiancé and vice versa, but her mother could not help but pass brutally honest and hurtful remarks about Kevin.

There were many instances where the 25-year-old had to have stern conversations with her mother and the rest of her family about some of the comments they made about Kevin.

The Unexpected Ultimatum

When the future mother-in-law met Kevin, she made remarks about his car, degree, and more. But his fiancée was able to speak to her mother and get her to show him a bit more respect.

The woman was stuck between standing up for her future husband and being labeled unreasonable and dramatic for giving her mother an ultimatum.

However, the mother always teased Kevin about his hairless face. The 25-year-old explained that Kevin was a white American with Irish roots, and she was Hispanic.

Kevin could not grow a beard and had confessed his insecurities about it to his future wife. But the in-laws commented about how "unmanly" it was that Kevin could not grow a beard or mustache.

The beard jokes were the most hurtful to Kevin of all the remarks his mother-in-law had dished to him. The woman stood up for her fiancé and confronted her mother about it.

In response, her mother said things like, "Oh, I didn't realize those remarks were offending him. I was just teasing him," or "You know me, I'm just giving my humble, honest opinion, so he shouldn't take it personal and should learn that this is how I am." However, the mother sincerely apologized to her future son-in-law at the end of the conversation.

The wedding day was getting closer, and the 25-year-old's parents decided to host a dinner and give Kevin a gift to further show how sorry they were for hurting his feelings.

"She invited the whole family for dinner and decided it was the perfect time to hand Kevin his wedding gift." the fiancée reiterated. Her mother handed it over to him, and he thanked her, but she insisted he open it in front of everyone.

The mother said she wanted him to see how well she knew him. Kevin did as he was told, and as he opened the box, he was met with a set of shaving tools and shaving cream.

He tried to take it in for a few minutes while his fiancée's stepfather kept saying, "You get the joke, Kev? You get it?" and the brother ran around laughing with the box.

Eventually, Kevin stormed out. His fiancée was also infuriated. "I was so mad I lost it on mom, asking why she did that and humiliated Kevin in front of everyone," she recalled. But again, her mother told her to relax and that it was just a joke.

But this time, the daughter was tired of her mother's hurtful remarks. Out of anger, she shouted, "No apology, no wedding invitation, period!" and walked out. Her mother was shocked as she did not think her joke would lead to an ultimatum.

The mother tried to calm her daughter down and told her she was overreacting. Her brother also thought she was unreasonable to exclude her mother from her wedding, but she did not back down.

Additionally, a Reddit user reckoned that her mother was hiding behind excuses like her "brutal honesty" to be deliberately rude toward her future son-in-law. Another commenter suggested that the woman plot her own revenge and send out an invitation with the wrong date and venue, have the wedding without her family, and tell them it was a joke. "It's just a joke! You should get over it; I was just messing with you," added the user.

People commended the woman for standing up for Kevin, but some did not think the bullying would end and suggested that Kevin pull out of the wedding.
