In November 2009, a Digital Spy forum user asked, "Is Miranda Richardson gay?" A discussion ensued, with other users sharing their speculations and opinions on the actress's sexuality.

One person felt it didn't matter what her sexuality was but admitted they've always wondered. Another said it never crossed their mind but was always enamored by Richardson's talent and beauty.

Another person responded, "I don't think she is, but I'm allowed to dream." Another wondered, "As a straight woman, I've always found her strangely attractive, so maybe my (closet) gaydar was alerted?" (Fans have also wondered if Greta Gerwig, Martin Short, and Charlie Puth were gay).

The users noted how private Richardson kept her life as the discussion continued, with one person describing her as an "enigma." Indeed, Richardson has kept a lid on her personal life, particularly her love life; however, she has touched briefly on it in previous interviews.

Miranda Richardson's Partner: The Hollywood Star Likes Maintaining Her 'Mystique'

Richardson once admitted that she had fallen in love many times, which she described as an "illness." Still, little, if anything, is known about her romantic history. In one interview, when asked if she was in a relationship, she responded:

"In my industry, everyone wants to know everything about you, and it's just dumb. I think the only way of maintaining some of that mystique is by not giving away too much about yourself."

Richardson added that doing so had served her well, saying she never wanted to feel "up for grabs." In another interview, she revealed that her teenage crushes were Richard Harris and John Wayne, but she eventually "got over" them.

Miranda Richardson Thought Marriage Would Be 'Good' for Her

When asked if she regretted not marrying and having children, Richardson said she considered her pets — two dogs, two cats, and a Mexican salamander — her family. "I think marriage would be quite good for me, but I'm not going to just go out and hire someone," she remarked.

Richardson added that she believed finding "Mr. Right" was possible but that one had to be lucky. She also didn't rule out starting a family one day. "It just hasn't happened for me yet," the actress said. Still, she has seemingly accepted that she "may not marry," noting that the people she knew mainly married for tax and security reasons.

Miranda Richardson's Love for Animals: She Once Aspired to Be a Vet

Richardson has always been candid about her love for animals, which ignited when she was young. She once recalled an encounter with a kestrel as a child, spending a few hours with the bird before it returned to its flock.

The experience left her with a feeling of oneness with the universe that has remained with her since. She even aspired to be a vet, but alas, she was "hopeless" with science subjects. Still, her passion for animals remained. She once participated in a Blue Cross campaign to raise awareness for giving pets loving homes.
