Is Charlie Puth Gay? The Singer Identifies as Straight, Though He Was Accused of Queerbaiting
Charlie Puth has faced questions about whether or not he is gay. Despite only publicly dating women, social media users have alleged the singer deliberately tried to attract a gay audience. However, Charlie Puth has been candid about his sexuality and denied queerbating.
Over the years, Charlie Puth has wracked up a list of ex-girlfriends and flings with fellow Hollywood stars but has still faced social media users accusing him of sharing explicit content to attract a gay audience.
The singer has not only set the record straight about his sexuality, but he has also denied queerbaiting and said that he looked to the LGBTQ community as a source of inspiration for his music.
Charlie Puth Opened Up about the Influence the LGBTQ Community Had on His Music
Over the years, social media users have turned to Twitter to accuse Puth of queerbaiting — also known as gaybaiting — which is posting sexually explicit content to attract a gay audience, despite being straight.
"Not Charlie Puth queerbaiting just to get attention from [expletive] gayz out there (sic)," one person shared, and another tweeted, "The funniest thing about Charlie Puth queerbaiting is that no one believes him."
A third person added, "Straight men expressing themselves with fashion is not queerbaiting. Whatever Charlie puth been doing is tho," and a fourth typed, "Charlie Puth if queerbaiting becomes illegal," followed by a picture of a hysterical Spongebob Squarepants getting arrested.
Despite the accusations, during an interview, Puth set the record straight and denied queerbaiting. Instead, the singer said he drew much inspiration from the LGBTQ community. He shared:
"I think LGBTQ+ culture is so ahead of its time, culturally, sonically, musically, everything-ly [...]."
Puth has not only been open about the LGBTQ community's influence on his music but has also been candid about his sex life. For him, sex and music are intertwined, and the singer aspires to arouse people with his music.

Сharlie Puth Confirmed His Sexuality Following Multiple Relationships with Women
In 2016, Puth released the duet "We Don't Talk Anymore" featuring Selena Gomez and revealed that the song was inspired by their brief yet "very impactful" relationship. He said:
"I don't kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there's something else going on behind the scenes. And that's what was happening [with Gomez]. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful."
According to Puth, he wasn't "the only person on her mind" during his relationship with the "Monte Carlo" star, and although it had been short-lived, their time together "messed" him up.

This was the same year Puth took to Twitter to reportedly apologize to Tyler Posey for seeing his then-girlfriend Bella Thorne while the two actors were still dating.
Hannah Berner claimed Puth sent her a message on Instagram a month before she was due to tie the knot.
According to reports, Puth tweeted that he was sorry after being spotted enjoying the Miami Jingle Ball with Thorne and going on a romantic beach trip with her.
A year later, Puth and "Starstruck" actress Danielle Campbell sparked dating rumors, as his comment under one of her more seductive Instagram posts did not go unnoticed.
He also shared a screenshot of himself appearing to FaceTime Campbell before quickly deleting the post. Eagle-eyed fans also noticed that the alleged couple were not only following each other but that the actress had also started following his siblings.
However, the nail in the coffin for fans was when Puth admitted to being in a relationship with someone during an interview. Both Hollywood stars were yet to confirm their relationship.
By 2019, after the singer had moved on with model and fellow pop star Charlotte Lawrence, he mourned the end of their relationship by penning his track, "That's Hilarious," documenting the former couple's break up. As Puth was brought to tears while recalling the "worst" year of his life, the singer said:
"I never told people what happened to me and the pain that I went through going through the worst breakup of my life in 2019. I just wanted to throw it under the carpet and just start over and surround myself with better people."

In the Summer of 2022, Puth had reportedly moved on with someone new. However, in 2023, social media personality Hannah Berner claimed Puth sent her a message on Instagram a month before she was due to tie the knot.
Berner said on her podcast that she was "sitting on her couch" ahead of her bachelorette party when the singer allegedly sent her a message saying he liked her.
Charlie Puth Is Currently 'Definitely' in Love with Someone He Grew up With
During an interview with Howard Stern in October 2022, Puth confirmed that he had found love again with someone he had grown up with and hinted that she might be the one after noting that should the couple get married, they would keep it private. He said:
"If I do, certainly the media won't know about it. And I'll go out of my way to make sure that they don't know about it because it becomes too much."
Puth confirmed his relationship with Brooke Sansone in December 2022 after the couple was romantically linked in the summer of 2022. He made his and Sansone's romance Instagram official on his 31st birthday with black and white pictures of the lovebirds.
Sansone — a digital marketing and public relations coordinator — and Puth go way back, and the musician shared that it was "nice" to be with someone he had known for a "long time."
