High school silliness is still going strong for Taylor Swift as the pop superstar revealed the inside joke she and her close friend share, and how a new animated film brought the whole memory rushing back.

Some of the best friendships begin in the awkward first weeks at a new school. For Taylor Swift, one began at age 14, and a goofy habit from those days never went away. She shared the sweet story at a special event in the Big Apple.

A Screening and a Story

Swift, 36, spoke during a Q&A with "Toy Story 5" director Andrew Stanton after a screening of the movie in New York City on November 1, 2026. When the conversation turned to the bond between the characters Bonnie and Blaze, the singer said it felt personal.

In her view, the story captured the joy of finding someone who shares "the same genre as weird and silly as you." That connection goes back to her teens.

At 14, Swift moved to Nashville and found herself the new kid, quietly sizing up classmates and wondering who might become a friend. Then she met Abigail Anderson, and the pair bonded over their love for talking in "Napoleon Dynamite" voices.

The routine never faded. Swift revealed that the habit is "something our husbands have to put up with" as the audience laughed. The singer then showed off her take on the husky voice of Jon Heder's title character.

Finding a person who sees the strange little genre that is you at your purest, she added, is what hit her hardest while watching the film.

Both women have since married. Swift wed NFL star Travis Kelce in a star-studded ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3, 2026, and Anderson married Charles "Charlie" Berard in 2022.

A Song for the Franchise

Swift also has a professional tie to the movie. She wrote and recorded "I Knew It, I Knew You," an original song for "Toy Story 5," the latest chapter in Pixar's animated series. The film arrived in theaters on June 19, 2026, and follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and their fellow toys as kids drift toward technology.

When their owner, Bonnie, gets a tablet called Lilypad, the toys have to find their place in a very different kind of playtime. During a June 2026 interview on "Good Morning America," Swift grew emotional while talking about the song.

She noted that, apart from composer Randy Newman, she is the only songwriter to create music for a "Toy Story" movie. Newman wrote the iconic theme "You've Got a Friend in Me" for the original 1995 film.

Swift said it meant a great deal to have his blessing, and she called the upcoming film her favorite in the series. The singer then appeared to wipe away a tear, joking, "Don't mind me. Just really liked the movie."
