When Sylvester Stallone's daughter fell ill at just two months old, doctors couldn't tell what was wrong with her. They looked for everything but found no answers to why she was sick.
Determined to get to the bottom of the matter, Sophia's mother, Jennifer Flavin, finally found someone who knew what was happening.
On the Stallone family's reality TV series "The Family Stallone," Sylvester Stallone's daughter, Sophia, shared with viewers that she had been born with a hole in her heart.
Sophia shared the story with her sister, Sistine, telling her that while other doctors had no idea what was ailing her, their mother finally found a doctor that determined she had a hole in her heart.
What Happened When Sophia Was 16?
When they found out about Sophia's condition, the Stallones began managing it, ensuring Sophia could live as normally as possible while remaining healthy and happy.
However, when she was 16, another stark reminder of her condition came while playing a volleyball game. She fainted in the middle of the court, leading to her having surgery.
Sophia said it was challenging to go from living an everyday life to having her chest opened by the doctors so they could operate on her heart. She shared:
"The moment I found out I needed an operation was one of the most pivotal experiences of my entire life because I never had to consider death before."
The 26-year-old then shared that during that time, her mother had rashes all over her body, and her father couldn't even talk to her without crying because his daughter was going to have open-heart surgery.
Sophia also shared that speaking to her father about her surgery became challenging because he didn't know how to deal with it. She also confessed it was difficult to see the people she thought were the strongest, feeling uncertain about her diagnosis.
Sylvester and Sophia Had A Touching Conversation
Since she went through the surgery and came out stronger, Sophia and Sylvester have had the time to sit down and have a touching conversation about her health and the surgery she endured.
Sophia confessed that she suffered from PTSD because of her surgery, saying that she felt she had to be strong until she was alone in the operating theatre because she thought everyone else around her would fall apart if she weren't.
She recently went to the doctor, who told her that the patch over the hole in her heart was still in place, and she was doing fantastic healthwise. Jennifer admitted there was "no greater feeling" than knowing her daughter was okay.
