Mom Realizes Her Son Is Still Alive After Noticing Detail on the Body During His Funeral

A young man's choice to go out and celebrate his birthday with friends ended in tragedy and distress for his loved ones. However, things took an unexpected twist at the last minute.

An Airbnb host shared a shocking story on TikTok about a woman who checked in at a guest house she works at. The guest divulged that she was in town for a celebration of life, and the host offered her condolences.

But the woman quickly revealed that the person in question was still alive. She decided to indulge the host by telling her the fascinating and jaw-dropping story of what had happened.

How One Woman’s Son Passed Away Unexpectedly

The TikTok user retold the bizarre story to her followers, stating that the woman permitted her to share the tale. According to her, when the woman's son turned 21, he decided to go out and celebrate with his college friends in a town he was unfamiliar with.

They went to a bar, where he started drinking, and only later realized his phone was gone. He asked the person behind him if they had seen the device, but the man denied knowing anything about the missing phone.

After accusing the stranger of stealing his phone, the man punched him in the face, and he fell on the side of the bar. He injured his head and was left unconscious, eventually being transported to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the person who assaulted him (and who had actually stolen his phone) ran away and went to another bar, where he got into trouble again. This time, the police happened to be right outside the establishment.

The suspect ran out of the bar, which led to a chase. He apparently had a gun and brandished it to the law enforcement officers who fatally shot him. When he fell to the ground, he "smacked his face off the curb," the host revealed. Meanwhile, the young man's mother was trying to get a hold of her son on his phone, to no avail.

The Mom Discovered Something Shocking about Her Son

As the mother persisted in trying to get in contact with her son through his phone, the coroner's officer answered the call, throwing her off guard. The host explained that the mom lost it upon hearing who was on the other end of the line.

She was asked to come into town to identify the body. The Tiktoker explained that the deceased's body was "all swollen," and they had "the same skin color, the same hair color, the same somewhat build."

The family held a funeral three days later, and that was when things started to unravel after she noticed something was amiss and started being hysterical.

It was an open-casket funeral, and the mother realized something about the deceased. The Tiktoker said of the mom, "She realizes that this guy has a tattoo on his arm, which she didn't see originally because it was under a blanket in the morgue."

The mother noticed it was not even a new tattoo. "So, she's at the funeral freaking out, 'Not my son! Not my son!' Everyone's like, 'Oh, my god, this mom's freaking out because she is like, 'Oh, my God, my baby's dead,'" said the host.

She added that the mother was still overwhelmed with grief while identifying the body at the morgue, thinking her child had died; hence, she could not tell them apart. The parent had no other information regarding what had transpired.

The mom later called all the hospitals looking for her child and finally found him. The TikToker posted another video of the incident a day later with a follow-up. She revealed the mom told her there was a mix-up between her son and the deceased because her child had put his ID and credit card in his phone case at the back of his phone.

He worried that he might lose his wallet and put everything there. His friends stayed with him at the hospital but could not spell his name, which the host said sounded "ethnic." Moreover, the victim had no social media, which made it difficult to track his family.

"He had a broken cheekbone. He didn't know his mom's phone number, and he couldn't talk," revealed the host. Meanwhile, the thief had no identification on him and was found with only the phone; hence, no one questioned it. The woman told the host that they were going to cremate the body after the funeral. She had paid for the service, but they returned the body after realizing it was not her son.

They called the police and got a bulletin with a picture of the deceased's tattoo so that someone could identify him. "She has no idea if he was ever claimed. She said she didn't care," the host disclosed. TikTok users shared their outlook on the story.

One TikToker imaged the woman's son lying in hospital, wondering why no one was visiting him, only to discover they were at his funeral. A second person was happy for the boy's mother, writing, Yay for the mom and her kid! But ummm did she get a refund on funeral expenses? Because those aren't cheap!"

Someone who read all the comments couldn't understand why the boy's mother didn't ask for a full body check. They couldn't comprehend how the coroner didn't have a chart of markings or tattoos, while another person shared, "I worked at a burn hospital ,and occasionally misidentifications would happen there with bad face burns."
