Sahith Theegala’s Parents: Facts about Muralidhar & Karuna Theegala

When Sahith Theegala's parents were in their 20s, they relocated to America, searching for a better life. And thanks to their hard work and keeping him connected to his Indian heritage, their son found success as a professional golfer.

Sahith Theegala's parents, Muralidhar and Karuna Theegala, have been by their son's side since he became known as a talented golfer. He revealed that his mom and dad did not know much about sports, nor did they play many sports before coming to America.

However, after the golfer's father picked up on his son's natural talent with a club, he knew Sahith Theegala was destined for greatness and did all he could to ensure his son lived up to his full potential.

Sahith Theegala Was a Little Boy When His Parents First Noticed His Golfing Talents

When Sahith was a little boy, he used to sit on his father's knee and watch basketball, cricket, and golf. However, given that he was raised in America — Los Angeles, specifically — basketball and golf were more prevalent and were the sports he was drawn to.

Sahith's large Indian family often joined his dad and mom at his matches and tournaments.

However, when the golfer was six, he and his parents learned how good he was at using a golf club. And with little knowledge or a background in the sport, Sahith's father set out on a mission to help his son reach new heights as a golfer.

Sahith Theegala's Father Always Knew His Son Was Destined for Greatness

Muralidhar was the first person in his family to leave India. He furthered his education at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, did his postgraduate studies at Kansas State University, and kickstarted a 22-year career at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

However, he also found time to take his son to practice golf at a local private country club near their home. And despite the trials and tribulations that came with supporting his sons' dreams, such as racism, Muralidhar persisted, as he revealed:

"I always believed that my boy is something special. [...] I believe that he was born to do something great."

And in September 2021, Sahith took to Instagram to thank his parents for their efforts, as he shared in part, "I couldn't have gotten here without a great team behind me, especially my mom, dad, and brother."

Sahith Theegala's Parents Kept Him Connected to His Indian Roots

Although Sahith's parents were born and raised in India, he only spent a few childhood years there. However, his parents still passed down their culture to their children, and Sahith revealed, "I definitely think that Asian heritage part is a big part of why I've reached this point."

Since finding success as a golfer and joining the likes of Tiger Woods, Kramer Hickok, and Phil Mickelson, Sahith's parents have supported him every step of the way. And according to reports, the golfer was still living with his parents when he was 22.

As of 2019, Sahith's large Indian family often joined his dad and mom to watch his matches and tournaments. And in 2022, his parents watched him from the gallery as he competed in the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

"I don't ever say 'Good luck' or 'Play well. I say, 'Have fun.' Why would I say 'Good luck?' You already did your work on the range. Just have fun," Sahith's father shared.
