Woman’s Dying Dad Wants to See Her Last Time Years after Leaving Her Homeless While Still in School
A Reddit user took to the platform a year ago to ask whether or not she was being unreasonable for refusing to go and meet with her dying father. She stated her reasons, which split the internet's opinions.
A young woman asked the internet last year whether or not she was wrong for not wanting to go and meet her father when he was on his deathbed. She explained her decision, blaming it on what her parents had done to her ten years earlier.
When she turned eighteen, her parents made the harsh decision to kick her out of their home, forcing her to live on the streets. She hated them for that and decided never to speak to them again.

The girl was still in high school when her father decided her time at home was up. She was 18, and she needed to be out of the house, according to him. Meanwhile, her mother didn't do anything to stop him.
What Happened After The Girl Moved Out?
Forced to move out, the girl tried to find means to make a living. She could not make enough money to afford housing, so she slept on the streets until she could find an alternative solution. While she tried to survive, the girl admitted, "The streets are no place for anyone, especially someone that young." Finally, she found a shelter where she could live for a while.
The girl remained steadfast in her decision not to speak to them again.
NGOs helped the girl finish school, after which she found a decent job following a technical course in programming. She saved enough money to go to college and shared that she had recently graduated.

Although she managed to make something of her life, she felt she could never forgive her parents for what they had done to her. She admitted that they had never contacted her, and she never reached out to them either.
She lived quite happily without speaking to her parents until another relative contacted her one day and told her she should reach out to her parents. But the girl remained steadfast in her decision not to speak to them again.
Who Contacted The Girl?
The girl went without talking to her parents for ten years, and they never reached out to her either. The only person who made contact with her was her uncle, who somehow found her number.

The girl's uncle sent her a text telling her that she ought to get in contact with her father because he was extremely sick. He was concerned that the girl's father would pass away in a matter of days. She recounted:
"My uncle told me that my father wanted to see me for [the] last time and asked if I could go there."
The girl told her uncle she was not willing to go and see her father. She did not hold a grudge against her parents or resent them for what they had done to her, but she always remembered how her father had kicked her out, and her mother had done nothing to stop it.

When the girl told her uncle she was unwilling to go and see her father despite his dying wishes, he told her she was "heartless" and "ungrateful." She admitted she thought most of her family felt the same way about it.
The girl admitted the only reason she had gone to Reddit was to find out whether or not she was wrong for her own sanity. She said that even if she were wrong, she would not see her parents as she would rather be wrong than ever see her parents again.
She received many responses to her post, most coming to her defense. One person asked where her uncle was when her parents kicked her out, and another said her father was an adult and old enough to die alone.

Some said that the day the girl's father kicked her out, she was no longer their child and shouldn't worry about her family's thoughts. They also said she had every right to avoid her parents and ignore her father's dying wish.
