Hargitay was 42 years old when she welcomed August. She delivered him via emergency C-section on June 28, 2006. A few months down the line, the actress won an Emmy, and in her speech, she said, "When I named my son August, I had no idea that the month would end like this!"

In fact, Hargitay revealed that it was her son who asked to have a younger sister and brother and realized that he probably believed he was able to make his wish a reality because Andrew was there shortly after his sister Amaya arrived.

The "Lake Placid" star opened up about her daughter's arrival, saying she basically pulled her out. "Peter and I held her, and then the birth mother and I hugged for a long time. That was profound," she said, adding that it was one of the most important moments in her life.

When naming her daughter, the actress said she loved the name Maya but wanted her and August to have the same initials, so she landed on Amaya. On the other hand, the arrival of Andrew was unexpected.

The actress knew she wanted another child and connected with Andrew immediately, but she did not expect the adoption process to go by so quickly. And yet, the decision to adopt was a no-brainer for the 59-year-old.

She confessed that she lost her mother at a young age and was raised by her stepmother. So early on in her life, she knew family can be formed in many ways.

Hargitay was joined by her family for her Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony. She struggled to get her words during her speech, but thanked her husband, calling him one of a kind. To her children, she said, "Thank you … to August, Amaya, and Andrew. I know one day you will grow into an understanding of how brightly the three of you shine into me and Daddy's life."
