A woman worried that she had ended her marriage and her friendship with her best friend after she demanded that they both partake in something they were not happy about. She turned to the internet for advice.

A Reddit user took to the platform to find out whether or not people thought she was wrong for having asked her husband and best friend to do something neither of them thought necessary.

The original poster (OP) said the issue had been playing on her mind for months, and she did not know how to handle it, which had led her to do something that ruined two of her most important relationships.

The woman's best friend had welcomed a son three years before the Reddit post. The friend claimed it was a product of a one-night stand with a man who wanted nothing to do with the child. But OP had suspicions about who the child's father might be.

What Did OP Do?

OP's best friend raised her son alone. However, she never let anyone know who his father was. But as the child got older, OP noticed that her best friend's son looked so much like her husband.

"The issue is this: this kid looks EXTREMELY like my husband like to an insane degree. The hair color, eyes, face, everything," OP explained to her readers. What's more, OP's husband would be mistaken for the child's father in public.

These coincidences made OP unsure who the baby's father was, leaving her suspecting that her husband might have been her best friend's one-night stand. The timelines added up, and OP said her husband and best friend were close. At one point, they had lived nearby when her best friend fell pregnant.

For months, OP harbored these suspicions. She also felt it odd that her best friend refused to show her a photo of her son's father, no matter how much she asked. She admitted:

"It kept spiraling until I had a meltdown and confronted both of them."

Upon confronting her husband and best friend, she told them that she would pack up and leave if they did not agree to take a paternity test. However, this may have been her worst move.

Although her best friend agreed to the paternity test, she assured OP that their friendship was over. And when the test came back, proving OP's husband was not the father, she regretted losing her best friend over the situation.

Meanwhile, she assumed her husband would stick by her side and understand what she was going through because he knew her history with cheating exes.

However, her husband did not react as she thought he would. Instead, he moved out of their shared home, leading to OP facing the thought of losing her marriage too. She turned to Reddit to ask if she needed to be corrected.

What Did People Say?

Many Reddit users commented on the OP's post, telling her that she was in the wrong for asking her husband and best friend for the paternity test, essentially accusing them of cheating on and lying to her for years.

One user asked if she had any reason to believe they would have been together and said that they were both understandably upset since she had accused them of something heinous.

Another user said OP was wrong for what she did because she had let her insecurities get the better of her to the point where she didn't even have a civilized conversation with them, instead blowing up on them and telling them she would leave.

The same user said OP could not blame her husband and best friend for leaving her after what she had done and then asked what the next thing would be that she would be upset about.

Suggestions for OP included therapy and finding a way of dealing with her insecurities instead of implicating people she loved. One user asked why her best friend would want to be her friend after she had made such a "wild accusation" against her.

While OP confirmed she was in therapy, one user suggested she find a way to express her feelings because she never talked to her husband about her fears nor allowed him to abate them.

Another user said that it was possible for people to look alike without relating, citing her own situation as an adopted child whose father was sterile, but they looked alike. The user added:

"Our brains are made to see patterns, including similarities between faces. That is not an excuse to accuse your husband of cheating with literally zero evidence."

While the woman in this story was mistaken for suspecting her husband of infidelity, it was different for another woman. A pregnant woman found out her husband was cheating on her, and he asked her to do something unthinkable after. Read the full story here.
