Man Accidentally Causes 'War' between His Parents & Brother's Bride's Family with Text on Her Wedding Day

After his brother told him he couldn't come to his wedding because of his sexuality, one man found out that having a boyfriend had ruined his brother's wedding regardless. He turned to the internet for advice.

A Reddit user asked others on the platform for advice when he had seemingly ruined his brother's wedding and relationship with the family. The original poster (OP) never expected the situation to reach the heights it did.

The OP explained that he did not attend the wedding and had no idea what was happening until his parents informed him. The situation quickly became uncontrollable, and the OP did not know what to do.

Being bisexual, the OP had a boyfriend when his brother tied the knot. Although he wanted to take his boyfriend to the wedding, the OP's brother explained that his new wife's family would have a problem with a same-sex couple being at the wedding, so he was uninvited.

What Happened Next?

Having dealt with prejudice about his sexuality all his life, the OP was not worried about not being invited to the wedding. In fact, he found it to be a relief as he had social anxiety and didn't enjoy big crowds.

On his brother's wedding day, the OP and his boyfriend stayed home and relaxed. The OP got a message from his parents asking where he was because they couldn't find him at the reception.

He texted back and told his parents he had been uninvited from the wedding. When they asked why, the OP shared:

"I suddenly got a text message from my parents asking me where I was because they couldn't find me at the wedding party...I didn't [see] any reason to lie, so I sent them a text message telling them exactly why."

The OP's parents read the message but didn't reply, leaving him wondering what happened next. He later found out that his parents had confronted his brother about the OP's absence, and it had quickly become the most talked-about thing at the wedding reception.

Two sides formed, with some people supporting the OP and his boyfriend and others saying they were wrong. The OP's brother took his wife's side, saying the OP was wrong, while the OP's parents took the OP's side.

After the wedding, the OP's brother went to his house to ask why he felt the need to ruin his wedding. The OP was confused and said it wasn't his intention, as he had told his parents what happened and why he wasn't at the wedding.

The OP Was Harassed

Soon after his brother showed up on his doorstep, the OP's brother went on his honeymoon to relax. However, his new sister-in-law's family did not leave the situation well enough alone.

The OP's sister-in-law's family found his and his boyfriend's Facebook and Instagram profiles and began sending them hateful messages. The OP knew it was them because they all shared a surname.

After reading the messages, the OP phoned his parents to let them know what was happening and then contacted his brother to tell him about his. The OP's brother said he was on honeymoon and did not want to be disturbed.

The OP was horrified that his brother was still taking his new wife's side and said he only apologized after their mother told him he had to. His new sister-in-law's father even tried to find out where the OP lived. Then, something strange happened to the OP.

One day, he got a call from an unknown number who turned out to be a member of his sister-in–law's family, apologizing for how the family had been acting and saying she was ashamed of them.

The OP told his mom about the phone call, but she still made a report against them for their behavior. She also told the OP's brother that he would divorce his wife or be disinherited from the will. He chose to stay with his wife and was disinherited from his mother's and father’s wills.

The person who phoned the OP also agreed to testify against her family in court after it came out that she liked girls. The OP admired her strength and said she was terrific for helping him. He also shared:
