Ex-Hotel Worker Talks about Foods You Should Never Have for Breakfast in a Hotel
Don't eat the complimentary breakfast at your hotel; it may not be worth it. This was the warning TikTok user Brandi Augustus issued followers after working in the industry for many years.
TikTok user Brandi Augustus, who worked at the front desk and night audit for hotels for fifteen years, told her followers that eating the complimentary breakfast may be flawed in some hotels.
The 36-year-old Knoxville, Tennessee, resident said that when she began working in the hotel industry in 2005, she gained a lot of knowledge on what goes on behind the scenes when preparing these free breakfasts.

Now, Augustus is sharing her knowledge with the internet so that people know what they might be getting into when they eat bread, sausages, and pastries at hotels offering complimentary buffet breakfast.
What Did Augustus Say About Her Experience?
Once, when Augustus was starting a night auditing position in a new hotel, she was being trained by another night auditor, who told her that she would only use one paper towel to clean everything all night.

Augustus was horrified at the suggestion and thought it was disgusting to do so, but she shared: "He said it was environmentally friendly, instead of using a rag, or a sponge, or even multiple paper towels."

Augustus' trainer told her to use one paper towel to clean bowls, spatulas, and tables. Aside from this, Augustus shared the foods you should never eat at a hotel buffet breakfast.
What Foods Should You Never Eat at A Hotel Buffet Breakfast?
As a hotel guest, Augustus said you should be wary of the waffle station. You should always check that the waffle machine is clean before they make the waffles.

She also shared that even if the waffle machine is clean, you might not get the best quality waffles as the batter is used for days until it ferments and smells like beer, at which point a new batch will be made.
Much like the batter used for many days, Augustus said that bread and pastries are often picked from the previous day's leftovers and used for the next morning's breakfast. She also shared that the food handlers did not use gloves or wash their hands when handling the bread and pastries.

Augustus also warned followers against the meat at the hotel breakfasts, saying the quality is subpar. She warned:
"Sausage is not supposed to be grey. Stop eating grey sausage."

Augustus feels that the meat in most places could be better and that guests should avoid it entirely. Among all the warnings, though, Augustus admitted that as a single mother, she would eat breakfast at these buffets to save time and money.
While she enjoyed the benefits of having a free and time-effective meal, Augustus knew precisely where she should find her sustenance. She preferred to eat freshly made waffle batter and unopened pastries. This way, she knew they were fresh and clean.

When Augustus brought these issues to her managers, they told her that because they had passed the health checks, they were doing well and would continue as they had been.
Augustus' videos have gained many views and comments since they were first posted, with many other people in the hospitality sharing their experiences with inedible hotel buffet food or defending their company's name against the allegations Augustus made.

Augustus also received many comments from hotel guests, who told her that no matter what, they would eat the food because it was free. Many said they didn't care if the waffle machine was clean, and others said they did not need to worry about sausages as they did not eat meat.
Augustus recommended that if a guest wanted to stay in a hotel purely because they offered breakfast, the guest should try to ensure that the food was made freshly and that the chef's kitchen was hygienic to ensure minimal contamination risk.
While many people can and have enjoyed the hotel's complimentary breakfast buffet, others barely know where their next meal will come from. Here is the story of a McDonald's employee who paid for a mother and her three children's food.
