Her younger brother, whom she referred to as "L," was her closest confidant and friend despite his disability. The siblings had lost their mother a month ago, and her passing had been particularly hard on L, as she was his primary caregiver.

Before her death, their mother, who was battling cancer, had discussed her wishes with the woman. One of them was for her to take in her brother and care for him. The woman readily agreed to honor her mother's request.
