Heath Ledger tragically died, leaving behind his one and only child, whom he welcomed with his former partner, Michelle Williams. At one point, the kid lived in a 1900 century home with her famous mom.

Ledger was an Australian actor who rose to prominence following his notable breakout role in the 2005 hit film, "Brokeback Mountain," wherein he played a gay cowboy.

His stint in the movie earned him an Academy Award nomination, and he was even compared to the likes of Sean Penn and Marlon Brando. In the film, he co-starred alongside Williams (who played his wife) and Anne Hathaway.

Sadly, Ledger died in January 2008 at age 28. In the wake of his passing, actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson, Ledger's co-star in the film, "The Patriot," said in a statement:

"[...] He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss."

Ledger was discovered dead in his apartment in Manhattan with sleeping pills near his body. The movie star had become a familiar figure in the SoHo neighborhood as he was considered friendly by his neighbors.

At the time, a hairstylist from a salon in the area, Julie McIntosh, shared that she used to see him on the street once or twice and had seen the star with his then-two-year-old daughter Matilda a few times.

Ledger had constantly made headlines in gossip columns since he moved to his apartment following his breakup with Williams. The pair met while filming "Brokeback Mountain," and their romance blossomed there.

The couple later moved to Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, where the paparazzi constantly hounded them. They welcomed their only child together, Matilda, in October 2005.

Michelle Williams Raised Her Daughter Away from the Spotlight

Following their split and Ledger's death, Williams and the duo's daughter faced a lot of unwanted media attention as the paparazzi would camp outside their home. However, her "personal hero," Kirsten Bell, came to the rescue when she lobbied media outlets to refrain from taking pictures of children.

In a June 2016 interview, Williams revealed, "We moved – we left Brooklyn and lived in the country for six years." They resided on a farm in upstate New York.

Williams divulged more about her life with her daughter in a July 2018 interview, saying they lived modestly "in a very simple house, with a very junky car" and did not go on vacations.

In 2014, Michelle purchased a new home with eight bedrooms and six bathrooms in the borough, just south of Prospect Park. The corner-lot Colonial Revival estate has been dubbed "Tara of Prospect Park South."

Built in the early 1900s, the abode, which the longtime Brooklyn resident and Emmy Award winner bought for $2.45 million, reportedly sits on 6,480 square feet.

The home's exterior view features a stained-glass transom window that crowns a wide bay window overlooking verdant surroundings. Meanwhile, the entrance hall has a traditional feel because of the pilasters and ornate cornices.

Williams' home – wherein she and Matilda lived as they wanted, and did activities like gardening, swimming, reading, walking, and spending time with pals – has a lot of natural lighting in the living room, which has a columned mantel.

Meanwhile, the dining room boasts a fireplace and built-in cabinetry with glassware on display. Dark wood doors stand out in one of the property's bedrooms.

The primary bedroom, part of its second-story wing, has polished wood floors with lots of natural light coming in. Moreover, an ornate stained-glass skylight leads to the main stairway. In addition, the house's main staircase sits against paneled walls and a carved wood handrail.

Williams, who is also a mom to son Hart Kail, purchased another home in Brooklyn with her now-husband, Thomas Kail, in January 2020. The pair bought a $10.8 million Brooklyn Heights townhouse.
