Mom Can't Wait to Meet Her Son's Girlfriend, Stunned When He Brings a Woman the Same Age as Her – Story of the Day
After losing her husband, Eliza, in a bid to ensure the happiness of her son, insists on meeting his girlfriend. Eliza is excited to meet her and goes out of her way to prepare for her arrival but is horrified when she finally comes face to face with her.
The black umbrella she carried over her head shielded her from the hot rays of the sun, like a symbol that showed just how dark her life had suddenly become.
All the guests had offered their condolences before leaving, and only Eliza was left standing in front of the newly buried tombstone of her husband.
Her eyes were swollen red, and her nails dug into the skin of her palms as she clenched them together, her last attempt to keep herself from crying all over again.

Her husband's death was a little expected, but that didn't make it any easier to accept.
John had been sick for years before he one day fell into a coma, one he never woke up from.
People had told her to give up on him and pull the plug, but John made her promise never to. If the one she loved refused to give up, how could she bring herself to do so?

"It hurts," she whispered under her breath, feeling her eyes burn as she stared at the newly inscribed epitaph on the tombstone.
A loving husband and a devoted father.
Eliza dug into her purse and brought out a white handkerchief to wipe the new tears that streamed down her face.
She had just dabbed at her eyes and raised her head to gaze into the distance when she spotted her son in a tight embrace with a woman with hair as gray as hers.
Even with the distance between them, Eliza could tell the woman wasn't young, and although the hug went on for quite a while, Eliza thought nothing more of it.

Adam needs all the comfort he can get, Eliza thought, lowering her gaze back to the ground her husband was buried in.
"I-I promise to protect him. He'll be happy, and I might even come to visit with our grandchildren one day," she whispered while sniffing and dabbing at her cheeks, trying not to completely ruin the already damaged makeup on her face.
She was reluctant to leave and unwilling to say goodbye, but just when she thought she could stay a bit longer, she heard the steady sound of heavy raindrops against the umbrella in her hand.

"I guess the rain at funerals falls mainly to chase the people unwilling to leave back home," Eliza whispered to the air, shifting the umbrella a little to the side, unconcerned about the droplets of rain that battered against her face.
In place of the sun were dark, unfriendly clouds that promised an impending storm.
"Mother!" said a familiar voice from behind her, one that made Eliza instantly turn around with a soft smile on her face.
It was Adam, and he stood a few feet behind her, dressed in a black suit. In his hand was a black umbrella of his own that protected him from the rain.

For a second, she couldn't stop staring at his face and his strong resemblance to his father.
"It's time to go home," he called out, and Eliza had no choice but to reluctantly nod and agree.
Adam was her only son, and although he had tried to have more children, she hadn't been able to do so.
He graduated with honors and got an engineering job at a good company, and there was nothing he did that she wasn't proud of.

After the funeral, she asked him to stay with her for a couple of weeks, and Adam willingly agreed. Eliza sat in the living room scrolling through her favorite channels when she heard footsteps moving down the stairs.
"You look nice," Eliza said, complimenting his outfit the second she saw him, wearing a blue suit that indicated he was dressed for an outing.
She was seated in the living room watching one of her favorite programs when she saw him adjusting his tie nervously like a teenager going to prom for the first time.
"This looks too formal to be just going out with friends," She pointed out with a sly expression, waiting for him to give her the information she was indirectly asking for.

"Yes, mother. I'm going out with my girlfriend, Helen. I'm sure I've mentioned her before," Adam smiled, shaking his head as he gave his mother the information he knew she was fishing for.
In a split second, whatever excitement she had towards the TV show she had been planning to watch instantly disappeared as she got on her feet.
In the depths of her gaze was a burning curiosity to know more as she walked towards him.
Under the guise of helping him adjust his tie, she began to ask the burning questions on her mind.
"How long have you guys been dating?"

"Does she not want to meet your mother?"
"When did you meet her, and why haven't I heard anything but her name?"
Eliza didn't even ask what she looked like because she didn't care.
Adam had been single for so long and too focused on his studies that, at one point, she couldn't help but wonder if he had a different sexual orientation altogether, one he hid from her.

"Mother, trust me, you'll meet her when the time is right."
"Right now, couldn't be more right," Eliza insisted as she stood before him.
He had mentioned her name several times, but that's all she ever heard about her.
No matter how much she pressured him, he stubbornly refused, but this time, she had no intention of letting him go.
"At least bring it up on your date. Ask her what she thinks," Eliza pressed, knowing that if she was to leave everything to her son, she might never meet her future daughter-in-law until the wedding day.

"If you love her, I'll trust your choice and love her too. There's nothing to be worried about," Eliza said, meaning every word.
Yes, she wanted the best for her son, but at the same time, she also wanted him to find his own happiness. For her, her son's joy was also her own.
If I tell him about my plans to spoil my future grandchildren, it would only make him hesitate even more.
"Trust me, meeting her won't affect your relationship. You can still move it at whatever pace you want."
"Fine, mother, you win. You'll get to meet her," Adam relented as his eyes darted between his mother and the clock behind her.

If he allowed her to continue talking, he was bound to be later than he already was.
"You'll meet her but only when she's comfortable to meet you, yes?"
"Yes," Eliza quickly agreed. She was convinced that there was no way his son's girlfriend wouldn't want to meet her, considering how serious their relationship seemed to be.
After the both of them deemed the conversation to be over, Eliza waved as Adam hurried to leave.

He didn't want to keep his date waiting more than he already did.
"Young Love," Eliza sighed as she fell back into the sofa she had been sitting on.
She was just about to continue watching one of her favorite shows when she suddenly jerked upright in her seat as she moved to grab her phone.
She suddenly realized that if she was meeting her son's girlfriend, then she also needed to make a good impression.
"What do young women of his age like?" She googled, strolling through the kinds of gifts they would like to receive.

"Three hundred dollars for a lipstick? How long has it been since I've gotten one," Eliza gasped in shock as she continued scrolling through perfumes, makeup kits, shoes, and bags that her son's girlfriend might like.
For Eliza, money had never been an issue since she had been an excellent doctor before quitting the profession to pursue other interests.
Her husband, too, had worked in real estate, meaning their family could be considered sufficiently wealthy by most standards.
It was just that the longer she scrolled, the more she realized that things she had enjoyed buying when she was younger were different from what younger women liked nowadays.
"I should do a little shopping for food items. At most, she should agree to visit me this week," Eliza muttered as she got on her feet.

There was visible excitement in her gait as she walked upstairs, with plans to make a list of all the things she needed to get.
Adam got back pretty late, and as much as she wanted to ask him a couple of questions, she knew better than to do so.
Instead, she chose to wait until the following day after he had eaten the carefully made food she had woken up early to prepare.
"So, what did she say?" Eliza asked, going straight to the point.
"You're not even going to ask me if the food I just ate is digesting properly," Adam teased, only to get a severe glare from his mother, who didn't even try to hide how impatient she was to know the answer.

"She agreed and said Saturday is perfect for her," Adam informed her.
Eliza would have liked the time to be closer, but she instantly understood that Helen probably had to work during the weekdays.
"Mum, you might meet her and think that she isn't the conventional choice for—" he began to say, only to be interrupted before he could finish.
"Don't worry about it. If you love her, what reason could there possibly be why I wouldn't feel the same?" Eliza replied with an excited expression on her face as she got off the chair she sat on.

"I know, but as I said, she's not exactly—" but before Adam could continue, his mum had hurried off, muttering all the ingredients she needed to buy before Saturday, which was only two days away.
For the two days before Eliza had to meet Helen, she spent it going grocery shopping and even made sure to buy a big jewelry present, which she carefully wrapped for her son's girlfriend.
She couldn't help but be excited as she thought of when she could brag to her friends and show them pictures of her grandchildren the same way they tormented her with theirs.

The only reason she hadn't brought it up with them yet was that she wanted to wait to meet the girl before she began thinking of the wedding.
I'm fifty, and is it when I'm using a walking stick and can barely stand on both my feet that I'll be able to have grandchildren? Eliza thought, mentally scolding her Son for not dating faster as she got the ingredients she needed from the supermarket.
The moment she was done, she instantly went to pay with a spring in her step and a radiant smile on her face.
Right in front of Eliza in the queue was an older woman who looked just as old as she was, if not older.

She, too, was getting a big gift, one she had even taken the time to wrap in the supermarket.
"That looks like a very big and beautiful gift," Eliza complemented in a bid to start a conversation with her.
She rarely met women around her age with friendly dispositions and whom she could easily talk to. Most of them always seemed to be too tightly wound.
The woman in front of her was different as she instantly smiled and turned to respond.

"Thank you. It's for someone special to someone special to me," she jokingly responded, and Eliza was ready to take the conversation further.
She could already picture the two of them sitting in a café, exchanging stories about their children and families and the troubles of getting older.
But before Eliza could speak again, she watched the queue move up, and it was the woman's turn.
Right after was Eliza's turn, and by the time the things she paid for were all packed, she got to the parking lot but found no trace of the woman.

Without overthinking too much about the missed opportunity, Eliza headed home, impatient to start preparing for a much-awaited one.
One that would allow her to meet Adam's girlfriend and future daughter-in-law.
Friday passed in a blur of excitement spent cleaning the house and preparing the garden where she intended to host her.
The bushes had been trimmed, and new flowers had been bought, planted, and arranged in various parts of the garden.
"You seem even more excited to have her over than I do," Adam commented as he saw the laborers his mother had hired and how much work was being done in the garden his mother had abandoned.

"I have to make a good first impression on her. I hope you've been saying only good things about me," Eliza said as she sent a warning glare his way.
"Mother, we both know there's nothing bad to be said about you," Adam replied, moving closer to hug her when he saw how satisfied she was with his response.
"Hurry off. There's still so much to do and so little time," Eliza sighed as she pulled away excitedly from him, her eyes scanning every corner to ensure no mistake had been made.
Saturday couldn't come quickly enough for Eliza. She had chosen a black dress she liked, coupled with her favorite pair of pearls to wear.
Adam was to pick Helen up around noon, but even before he left, Eliza was already dressed and ready.

Seeing that she was ready, Adam didn't wait to be told twice before he quickly left the house, knowing that she would only badger him with questions and reminders to leave, even if they still had at least an hour more to go.
Eliza did a final check on the house to ensure everything was in order and nothing was amiss.
She inspected the food and the snacks she had prepared and even checked her face, outfit, and hair to ensure that no wrinkle was out of place.
Then she she sat down and waited.

She was tempted to call him and find out if they were on their way when she suddenly heard a knock on the main door of the house.
Eliza quickly walked towards it to answer it with a beautiful smile. She opened the door to see her son Adam standing in front of the door with a woman by his side.
Eliza was instantly confused.
Is this Helen's mother? She wondered to herself, thinking that Helen hadn't been able to make it and her mother somehow decided to show up.
Surprisingly, it was the same older woman she had met at the supermarket, with whom she felt she could be close friends.

She was just about to ask who she was after sending a confused look at Adam when she heard him open his mouth to speak.
"Mum, meet Helen. This is my girlfriend," Adam announced with an earnest look as he looked at the woman beside him.
The smile on Eliza's face became extremely stiff, and she did her best to pretend that she hadn't just gotten the worst shock of her entire life.
Standing beside her twenty-seven-year-old son was a woman who looked twice his age.

"Mother, aren't you going to invite us in?" Adam asked, jerking her out of the bewilderment she found herself in.
"Sure. Please come in," Eliza instantly responded, pulling the door wider for them to enter while trying to process what was happening. In the meantime, she had no choice but to pretend that all was well.
After they both came in, she instantly led them into the garden with a stiff smile.

She couldn't stop staring at Helen, who Adam had just introduced to her as his girlfriend.
Is this a joke? Could this be one of those pranks young people play on their parents on social media? Eliza wondered until she got to the garden, where they all sat down to talk.
On the table were the dishes she had cooked. Trying to compose herself, she dished the food before Eliza began to speak.
"Adam, this IS Helen, right?" she asked mainly to confirm what she had already been told while somehow hoping that Adam was joking.
"Yes. This is Helen, my girlfriend," Adam assured her, and Eliza could no longer hold up the fake smile on her face, as it instantly disappeared the second she heard his response.

"It's nice to meet you, Eliza. Adam has told me so many good things about you," Helen said with a friendly and accommodating smile.
Eliza could see the big present she had complimented at the supermarket on her lap but paid no attention to it.
The change in her mood was noticeable.
"Helen, right? You're going to be what? seventy, seventy-two next year?" Eliza suddenly asked, not even trying to hide her disdain towards her.
The tension in the air was palpable, and they could all clearly feel it, especially Helen, who was conscious of the reason why.

"No. I'll be fifty-two," Helen gently replied, which only served to piss Eliza off the more. Eliza was annoyed at how calm her guest was, as if this was completely normal.
She had so many things she wanted to say to her, and the only reason she didn't say it was because of Adam, who kept sending meaningful glances her way.
"So tell me, what work do you do, or are you already retired?" Eliza asked as calmly as she could, even as she boiled inside.
Or are you hoping to use my son as your retirement plan?
"No, but I have a blog," Helen replied, and Eliza huffed under her breath, her gaze still directed to the food in front of her, which she had yet to take a single spoon from.

"Children?"
"I don't have any," Helen responded with a shake of her head, and Eliza nodded to show that it was something she expected.
You wouldn't be here trying to deceive my only son if you did.
"Mum, trust me. Helen is pretty great. She has a huge blog with thousands of followers," Adam said, picking up his tablet to show Eliza.
"Yes. It's called 'Help from Helen.' I help women in difficult situations," Helen added, explaining with an expression of pride on her face.

Instead of looking at what Adam, her son, wanted to show her, Eliza raised her head and looked at Helen, her eyes brimming with contempt.
"Really? Cause I have a problem I need help with," Eliza said with a serious expression on her face, one that Helen couldn't help but take seriously.
"Of course, you can tell me and—"
Without letting her finish, Eliza interrupted her, speaking much louder in a tone that portrayed her utter dislike of Helen's presence in her house.

"My son suddenly brings home a woman old enough to be his mother. Please help me, Helen! What do you think I should do?"
"Mother!" Adam exclaimed, about to say more, only to keep quiet when Helen boldly opened her mouth to respond.
"I would advise you to support your son and trust him to find his own happiness and not be too rigid and stand in his way."
For Eliza, that was the last straw; she flew off the chair she was seated on and jumped to her feet, yelling right at Helen.
Gone was the restraint she was trying to hold on to. To her, Helen was nothing but an enemy that was trying to take advantage of her son.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
"Who do you think you are? A woman in her twenties falling in love for the first time? You're nothing but a washed-up old woman trying to cling to a younger man in her later years."
"Mother," Adam softly called out, trying to get her attention but to no avail.
"You're my age, and you dare tell me I'm being too rigid in my thinking. What? You wasted your youth on men who refused to marry you but think I'll let a woman like you hold on to my son?"
"Mother!" Adam yelled, trying to stop her from saying more, but Eliza had gone too far to think of stopping there.
"You think I don't know that a woman like you can never love my son, and he can never love you in return. In ten to twenty years, you'll look like his dead grandmother. What do you think will happen then?"
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
At this point, Helen couldn't continue to keep quiet as she also got on her feet to respond.
"I love your son, and he loves me!" Helen shouted with conviction, but Eliza didn't care as she yelled back words she hoped would chase Helen away forever.
"You are nothing but a greedy old lady. You don't have children, and that's why you think you can steal and use my only son!" Eliza yelled at her, but this time around, instead of yelling back, Helen didn't.
Instead, she stood there in shock at the words that had just been thrown at her. Slowly, like she was in a daze, she grabbed the gift she brought and walked out of the garden without saying another word.
"Helen!" Adam yelled, getting on his feet to run after her, but Eliza blocked him before he could take a single step.

"She's bad for you. You don't see it now, but I know for a fact that she can never make you happy, and she's only trying to use you."
"Mother, stop! Helen is not like that."
"Yes, she is. At fifty, how many children do you think she can have? She's just trying to make me look like the bad person and cause a rift between us."
"Mother, please move. You've already said enough hurtful things about her for one day," Adam said, but Eliza continued to block his path.
"Don't go after her. If you do, then it means you're picking her over me right now," Eliza said with a serious look on her face, hoping that it would prevent Adam from chasing after her.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
She was shocked to discover that it didn't.
"I'm sorry, Mother, but I have to go after her," he told Eliza, passing beside her before heading out of the house seconds later.
Eliza was furious when she heard the front door slam shut as Adam left the house.
"That woman," Eliza hissed under her breath, thinking of the audacity she had to come to her house and tell her to her face that she was dating her son.
How am I going to get my future grandkids? Who will care for them in ten to fifteen years when she's old and has trouble walking? Is it my son that will look after her?

Eliza carried a plate of food and moved to the living room to watch some TV, hoping to use it to cool off her simmering anger, but it didn't work.
Before she knew it, she picked up her phone and began looking for Helen's blog.
It didn't take long for her to find it, and she was slightly surprised to realize that she did have thousands of subscribers.
Having satisfied her curiosity, she was just about to close the webpage and live when she suddenly discovered that Helen was live on the blog.
After the spat they had, Eliza assumed that Helen would burrow in a hole and at least hide there thinking about all she said to her for some days; instead, she chose to go online.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
Eliza clicked on the live option and began watching Helen describe how tiring her day was, and Eliza was annoyed to see the care and love her followers and subscribers gave her in the comment section.
They don't know her. They don't know the kind of woman she is.
Before Eliza knew it, she began to furiously type on her phone, saying everything she needed to get off her chest.
She described how Helen was dating her son, who was more than twenty years younger than her, and how she had probably done the same things to others.
Eliza explicitly described how sure she was that Helen was doing it for the money she could get from her son.

At first, her post didn't get a lot of reactions, but it finally did when Helen herself saw it and tried to defend herself.
"I would never do that. I love your son; although he's younger than me, it doesn't matter. Age doesn't matter when it comes to love," Helen said, trying to defend herself, but it was already too late as people began to comment heavily about it in her comment session.
{Are you serious? How can she say that age doesn't matter?}
{Would she say that if she was eighteen and the guy was in his forties?}
{This is shocking. If she was a mother, would she accept such a thing for her son}
For illustration purposes only. | Source: Pexels
{In ten years, she wouldn't even be able to confidently walk beside him without feeling insecure}
{The only reason I could ever think someone her age would date a young man like that is money. If she's not giving him some, then she's getting something from him}
Most of the comments were from people streaming her live for the first time.
Her subscribers tried to help and support her, but it was too much for Helen, who became overwhelmed and quickly ended the live session.
Now you know better than to mess with my son and think you can get away with it, Eliza thought as she closed her phone and went back to watching her show with a smug smile.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: Pexels
Eliza didn't care if she ruined her blog and even hoped that she had done enough damage. Damage that would ensure that Helen would no longer be able to hang on to her son.
That night, she slept very well, satisfied that she had put the greedy woman in her place.
The following day, though, she couldn't help but worry when she realized Adam had yet to return home.
She called him, but he didn't pick up her calls. She even tried sending messages, but still, he refused to reply and only sent word that he was fine.

He's angry now, but he'll come around, she thought but was surprised when, even after a week, he still refused to contact her.
Feeling a little lonely, Eliza decided to visit her husband's grave.
With flowers in her hands, she knelt close to his tombstone and began to describe everything that had happened in his absence.
"He brought an old woman, John. A woman of my age. How am I supposed to accept that?" Eliza told him as she stood there trying not to cry as she realized she would never be able to physically talk to her husband again.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
"Because I sent her off, our only son isn't talking to me. I'm his mother, and if she thinks she can replace me as both a mother and a lover, then she's joking," Eliza said, becoming hysterical as she continued to talk.
"John, I'm not a bad mother but I want the best for him. How can a woman older than me be good for him? She could never love him," Eliza cried with tears in her eyes.
She reached into her purse to get a handkerchief to dab at her eyes, but she had just done so when she spotted someone walking towards the paths she stood on.
She looked closer, and it was Helen. Without thinking further about why she was there, Eliza instantly lost it as she stormed over to her.

Eliza was angry that although she was in her most vulnerable moments at her dead husband's tombstone, Helen still chose that exact time to chase her down to confront her.
"What do you think you're doing here? I knew you weren't a good person, but now I'm sure!" Eliza yelled as she eyed the black outfit she had on.
"Wha-what?" Helen responded with a surprised expression as she faced Eliza, who suddenly appeared before her.
"Don't even bother trying to pretend. You are so shameless!"
"You came just to meet me under the pretense of mourning. I will never allow you to be with my son!" Eliza yelled, not caring about the noise she was making or the other people who could hear their conversation.
For illustration purposes only. | Source: YouTube/ (DramatizeMe)
"I didn't come here to look for you; this is a coincidence," Helen tried explaining, but Eliza wasn't listening.
"I've heard of women like you with innocent faces who go around—" Eliza continued, only to be shocked to see Helen yell back at her and move out of her way at the same time.
"I'm no longer with your son. Leave me alone!" Helen yelled in frustration as she maneuvered past Eliza and walked off.
For a few seconds, Eliza was stunned. The last thing she expected was the reaction she got from Helen, who seemed genuinely disheartened for talking to her.
She's pretending. That's just the kind of person she is, Eliza thought as she watched her leave. She also turned around to go when, unexpectedly, an epitaph caught her eye some distance away.

Loving and devoted husband to Helen.
For a few seconds, Eliza stared wide-eyed at it, refusing to believe the truth she could see in front of her. It was clear that not only had she insulted Helen, but she had also done so at the graveyard of her late husband.
The thought of someone doing the same to her made her realize just how terrible what she did was.
In a split second, she began to recall all the terrible things she had said to her to drive her away and how far they were from the truth.
As quickly as she could, Eliza ran to catch up with her, wanting to apologize.

The possibility that Helen was just an older woman who had lost her husband and still found the courage to give love a second chance never occurred to her.
"Helen!"
"Helen, please wait!" she shouted, but Helen didn't. Instead, she hastened her steps, doing her best to get as far as she could from Eliza.
But Eliza refused to give up and ran even faster until she could catch up with her.
"What do you want? Haven't you said enough?" Helen yelled at Eliza with tears in her eyes when she saw her dash in front of her to stop her.

"I'm so sorry. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. I didn't know you lost your husband, and all the things I—"
"It doesn't matter. It's all in the past. I'm no longer with your son, and from this moment on, I have absolutely nothing to do with you," Helen tried to calmly say, even if the pain in her eyes was apparent.
Without allowing Eliza to say more, Helen moved and walked away as quickly as she could.
Even before Eliza got home, she felt very remorseful and regretted her past actions.
Adam, her son, wasn't talking to her, and it was clear that his loving relationship with Helen had utterly crashed and burned.

She even went as far as to check Helen's blog and discovered that Helen had yet to go live since the day she invaded and disrupted her live session.
Throughout the day, she couldn't stop thinking about how to make it up to her.
Yes, she was still slightly against Adam being with her, but if that would make him happy, she would agree for them to be together.
Finally, after thinking about it over and over again, she concluded that the only way she could get both of them to forgive her was if she showed her sincerity.
Eliza began recording a video to send to all her social media accounts and even posted it under Helen's blog, all over the comments in her videos.

"I need help from Helen," Eliza began speaking with a genuine look on her face.
"I'm sincerely ashamed and embarrassed, and I know you're the only one who can help me. Please!" Eliza begged, prepared to do anything to make Helen agree to talk with her.
After spreading it all over the blog where she was sure Helen would see it, Eliza waited, hoping she would at least get a chance to make things right.
The next day arrived, and she didn't get any messages from Helen. By evening, Eliza was sure she had been ignored until she heard a knock on her door.
She hurried over to open it and was shocked to see Helen, who stood there with a reluctant but brave expression, holding a huge present in her hands.

The one she had brought the day she came but taken with her when she stormed out in anger.
"Hello, Eliza. My name is Helen. I'm Adam's girlfriend," Helen introduced herself to Eliza's delight, who had been wracking her head for words she could use to convince Helen that she was indeed sorry for how she treated her.
"Come in. I'm yet to cook anything, but there are enough snacks we can nibble on while we talk," Eliza beamed, welcoming her into her house with a big smile that showed how happy she was to see her.
Eliza thought she had a big heart, only to realize that Helen had a bigger one.
The moment she showed up at the door, she instantly made it known that she was ready to forgive Eliza if Eliza was ready to accept her.

I completely misjudged her. If I were in her shoes, I wouldn't want anyone to discriminate against me because of my age without trying to get to know the kind of person I am.
Quickly, Eliza led her into the dining room, and minutes later, they were chatting as they both began to prepare a table full of dishes.
The plan was to finish cooking and for Helen to call Adam over to show him that everything was good between them.
Eliza's hands were still deep inside the dough she was kneading when she heard a series of loud and heavy knocks on the main door.
"Are you expecting someone?" Helen worriedly asked, especially when it seemed like the person was on the verge of breaking the door down.

"No, and It can't be Adam since he has the keys, but I should at least check," Eliza responded, rinsing her hand and drying it as she prepared to leave the kitchen.
"I'll go with you," Helen told her as she did the same.
But they had both barely left the kitchen when they heard the loud sound of keys in the lock right before the door swung open seconds later.
"Mother!"
"Mum, where are you?" Adam's voice echoed through the house the second he entered.

"I'm here, what's wrong?" Eliza ran to him in alarm, seeing the anxious look on his face, which made her feel like something terrible had happened.
"I saw the video of you asking for help. I thought something happened to you. Why were you asking Helen? You should have come to—" Adam lectured his mother as he hugged her, only to freeze the second his eyes landed on Helen, who stood a few steps behind Eliza.
"Helen?" He asked like he was trying to confirm that it was actually her and not him seeing things.
"What's going on here?"

"Your mum needed help making a blueberry pie, and I'm Helen. It's my job to help. I was planning to call you the moment we were done..."
She had barely finished speaking when she felt Adam walk over to hug her tightly with a look of extreme joy on his face.
The hug lasted for a couple of seconds before he pulled away and pulled his mother closer to himself.
"Thank you. Thank you for accepting her. I didn't know what to say to you after we broke up," Adam told her, beyond ecstatic at the sudden turn of events.
"I'm the one that should be apologizing. I judged her too quickly without getting to know the amazing person you told me she was. I was wrong," Eliza replied, about to open her mouth and say more to Adam when Helen suddenly spoke.

"I smell something burning," she said, and Eliza instantly pulled away as she and Helen ran to the kitchen with big smiles.
The last thing they wanted was for the little blueberry pie, which was the first thing they made together, to burn.
Looking at Helen, Eliza was happy that her son had found happiness, and she, too, could make a new friend.
At that moment, she was happy, and although she didn't know what the future would hold for her son, she wanted to enjoy the moment with her son and his new girlfriend.
