Gussy Lau's Response to the Viral Photo

An image of Gussy and Ángela getting cozy and sharing a kiss began circulating on the internet in early April 2022. It was a screenshot from a video Gussy had posted privately to his close friends' list on his socials.

The photo triggered an uproar from fans as they speculated the nature of Gussy and Ángela's relationship. Some noted the age gap between the two, as Gussy is reportedly 15 years older than Ángela, who was 18 at the time.

Gussy then went on Instagram Live to address the matter. He confirmed that he and Ángela were indeed dating and had been since that February but had chosen to keep things private. Given the age gap, fans also wondered about Ángela's parents' opinion about the romance.

"[...] Pepe agrees; Aneliz also knows it; my parents already know her, and everyone already knows each other," he shared (per Google Translate). As for who leaked the photos, Gussy hadn't yet found out who it was but said he felt betrayed.

Ángela Aguilar's Response to the Controversy

In a since-deleted video from her Instagram page, Ángela shared her thoughts on the aftermath of her and Gussy's viral photo. "I feel sad, disappointed, I can't believe I'm making this video; My soul hurts... Some photos have been circulating that I did not agree with coming out," she began.

The singer and businesswoman felt her privacy had been violated. She shared that the controversy had not only affected personal life but also her career. "Although I did not agree, I put myself in a position, in this position, and that was incorrect [on] my part, and that was my mistake," she admitted.

Ángela added that she deserves to choose what she shares publicly and whether or not she wants to be in a relationship. But as for the nature of her relationship with her composer, she did not elaborate.

Gussy Lau Hasn't Communicated with the Aguilar Family in over a Year

In a "Venteneando" interview in November 2023, Gussy shared an update on his relationship with Ángela. It was reported that the pair separated after three months of dating. He shared that Ángela's father, Pepe, had influenced their break up.

However, the musician, a two-time Latin Grammy winner, seemed to empathize with Pepe, given the negative attention Ángela received due to her speculated relationship with him.

Gussy also shared his communication with the Aguilar family, which includes Pepe's wife, Aneliz Álvarez Alcalá, and his three other children, Leonardo Aguilar, Emiliano Aguilar, and Aneliz Aguilar, had halted since around April 2022. Still, his contract with them, which expires in mid-2024, continues.
