Braugher's longtime publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed that the "City of Angels" talent was diagnosed with lung cancer a few months before his demise. His illness caused his death despite him having quit smoking and drinking years before.

He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Ami Brabson, and a doting dad to their three sons. The deceased star was so devoted to his family that he would fly back and forth between Los Angeles (where his show was filmed) and their home base in New Jersey.

Of his decision to always put his family first, Braugher explained, "I made a choice along the way that Ami and those boys were too important to not spend quantity time with..."
