To start, the wife clarified that she and her husband had different cultural backgrounds. Her husband could not cook, but he was not a big fan of the food from her country, so to meet him in the middle, the Redditor decided to learn how to make his favorite meals.

The husband seemed to appreciate his wife's effort to go the extra mile and praised her cooking. He would even encourage her to continue learning how to make more meals. One day, the wife was having dinner with her in-laws. She excused herself to go to the bathroom, but when she came back, she overheard her husband say something shocking.

The husband had been eating a lot and fast, so his father told him to slow down and asked if his wife cooked for him. "My husband said that I cook for him, but the food I make can only be fed to pigs, not humans. I was hurt and so offended," revealed the woman.

The Redditor was shocked to hear her husband say something so hurtful. She walked up to him and told him she would never cook for him again. The wife grabbed her purse and told everyone she was heading home.

When her husband got home, he explained that he did not mean to hurt her. In fact, he said his wife should be appreciative because it meant he was still willing to eat her food even if it was not perfect. "He said he was trying to protect my feelings, and I hurt him when I said I wouldn't cook anymore," added the Redditor.

The wife came back with an update. She did not realize that her post had gained much traction, but she said her husband was now living with his father, and everyone believes she overreacted.

Her husband took the decision as a "threat" and felt that his wife was "starving" him. So he resisted by staying with his father. However, the Redditor was also not budging.

"I told him he could stay there all he could after he said he wouldn't be back til I went back to cooking, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. He can stay there, no pressure," she reiterated.

Her husband's offensive comment caused a rift in their marriage, and now the wife wondered if she was wrong for refusing to cook for him after what he said about her meals.

People's Comments

People who interacted with the Reddior's story had a few opinions about how the situation was handled. Commenters thought saying his wife's food was only good to be served to pigs was not a way of protecting their feelings.

Instead, other Reddiors believed the husband deliberately tried to hurt his wife's feelings. Another commenter thought it was rude for him to even say something that hurtful in front of his parents.

The commenter said: "You are not his personal chef, and mocking you in front of his parents was a disgusting thing to do. A healthy marriage requires open communication and an equal partnership, neither of which is happening here if he's not helping cook and then not telling you he has issues with your food."

Many Reddiors were on the wife's side, saying she was not wrong for how she reacted. People believed there was a better and kinder way her husband could have addressed the issues without humiliating her.
