The sweet and kind-natured legendary entertainer was just as pleased to be talking to Gold, who has listened to Parton's music his whole life. It was actually one of Gold's dying wishes he hoped would come true before his demise.
Before Parton surprised him with the call, Gold thought that the encounter would have never happened, and as it turned out, he was wrong. While lying in his bed with his wife standing by his side as she recorded the conversation, Parton cheerily expressed, "Well, I'm just happy to know I've got a fan that's devoted...Hey LG, it's Dolly P...I've heard you've been a fan of mine for many years, and I just wanted to thank you for that."

A jubilant Gold replied that it was his honor to have been a loyal fan of Parton's, and the two continued engaging in conversation. Parton joked with Gold, spoke about his profession, and continued to extend her gratitude. Gold's wife also thanked Parton and reiterated how much she, her husband, and their family love the star.
At some point on the call, Parton expressed her love for Gold, sang a few bars from "I Will Always Love You," and included his name in the song to make the dedication that much more special. This incredible and sentimental surprise could not have come at a better time for Gold, who disclosed the grim prognosis of his cancer diagnosis and stated, "The chemo is not working anymore, the radiation is not working anymore."
Gold has been battling colon cancer for the last two years, and meeting Parton was one of the agendas he wanted to cross off of his bucket list, which his doting wife, Alice Wills, helped happen with her public social media plea to the "Jolene" artist. The document is called "LG's List of Living," and aside from meeting Parton, Gold has made headway with other items on his list.
Although Gold only has a limited time left to live, he is surrounded and supported by his loving kids and wife, who helped make his dream of meeting Parton come true, which made him feel great.
