When Eva Mendes met Ryan Gosling, she knew she wanted to create life with him. For the first time, Mendes wanted to become a mom.

In the years since they met “way before” 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines,” the couple settled into a privately kept relationship that includes their children. Mendes had since also traded one creative vocation for another.

During an interview, she elaborated on the decision to give up acting in favor of being a full-time mom.

“I never experienced anything like that. The way he worked, his commitment to his craft. How he wants to make everything the best it can be, and that means making his co-stars the best they can be, but unfortunately, or fortunately, there is only one Ryan, so I pretty much stopped acting after that,” she said.

It felt natural for Eva Mendes to then become a full-time mother of their two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada.

“It was like a no-brainer. I’m so lucky, and I was like, if I could have this time with my children. And I still work, I just didn’t act, because acting; takes you on location, it takes you away,” Mendes explained.

Motherhood, Mendes said, is the “most creative thing” she’s ever done. "I'm an actress, I've designed clothes, I've done a number of different things. But this is the most creative thing, to create life with them."

Mendes is also fiercely protective of that life. While responding to a fan on Instagram, Mendes revealed why she and Gosling aren't seen at events together.

She told the fan that the two don't do those things together when the fan said she was hoping to see Mendes beside Gosling during the awards season after the release of "Barbie." Mendes added that she was only comfortable sharing photos that were already out there.

The mother of two again revealed a bit more of her life in response to another fan, who asked her to tell Ryan Gosling to take her out more, but the actress responded that she'd rather be home with her man than anyone else in the world.

However, Gosling’s road to parenthood followed a path similar to Mendes's. It was only after they met each other that thoughts of bringing a child into this world began.

When Gosling was asked whether he had seen a future with kids, he admitted that he hadn't considered kids before he met Mendes. However, when they crossed paths, he knew he just didn't want to have children without her.

As Gosling and the actress acted as family on screen, the actor realized he didn't want to play pretend anymore, and he'd be lucky to create a family with Mendes.

After Gosling welcomed his second child, he started appearing in fewer movies, and for four years, he wasn't featured in anything. He explained that he wanted to spend as much time as possible with his kids, so he took a break from Hollywood.

The movie star also said he and Mendes didn't have a nanny, as they did everything by themselves. So, Gosling tried only to do one or two movies per year because he had to bring his family from their quiet town in the southern half of California to the location of each movie he shot. However, most of the time, they stayed at home with visiting relatives.

Having found a dynamic that works for them, Mendes and Gosling keep true to their values and spend time on, and with the things that bring them joy.
