JLo Slammed for Acting 'So Rude' toward Guest at Met Gala Red Carpet: Video & Details of What Happened

Jennifer Lopez is being slammed by social media users online for her "rude" behavior toward a Met Gala guest. A video shared on Instagram and TikTok, which has gone viral, shows why the public is up in arms over the star's attitude.

In Met Gala news, Jennifer Lopez finds herself at the center of controversy for how she acted toward a guest in attendance at the fashion extravaganza. A video shared by the guest, Anika Reed, depicts Lopez giving her the cold shoulder, and the public is not here for it.

The video shows the Hollywood star walking up the entrance steps with the help of her team. Reed politely asks Lopez, "Who are you wearing tonight?" as the "I'm Real" singer passes by her on the red carpet.

Lopez, who appeared unbothered and uninterested, briefly acknowledges Reed's question, ever so slightly turning her head to look at her, and curtly responds with, "Schiaparelli." She then continued to head in the direction she was going and greeted someone else.

"#metgala co-chair @jlo briefly told me about her look for the night: @schiaparelli ✨," captioned Reed alongside the video of her and Lopez's exchange.

To say the least, many social media users were unimpressed by how Lopez treated Reed and took to online platforms to express their disapproval.

"So RUDE," criticized an Instagrammer, while another slammed, "she is always mean. just unclassy." Echoing the sentiment, another social media user simply commented, "AWFULNESS."

Another person who had a lot to say on the matter stated, "The way she answered TELLS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW. Karma got her cause her tour is flopppppping! 😂😂😂."

Expressing admiration for what Lopez wore but disdain for the celebrity as a person, someone else wrote, "The dress is incredible, the person wearing it not so much."

Reed is a news editor for USA Today and was at the Met Gala as one of the reporters, getting the inside scoop on the ensembles worn by stars of the night.

In addition to Instagram, the video of the musician and Reed's exchange was also shared on TikTok where it has since gone viral, reaching nearly 4 million views.

Lopez's disposition toward Reed juxtaposes a previous statement made about her character by her fellow "Hustlers" co-star Constance Wu. After speaking about how Lopez's mother, kids, and sister would visit her on set often in a 2021 interview, Wu divulged, "They're all really kind and down-to-earth."

However, two years before Wu's assertion, in 2019, Lopez sat down for an interview in which she addressed public opinion about her having a "diva" attitude. She admitted that at times she doesn't "come off as warm," which is something her manager, Benny Medina, once said.

"I think there's some truth to that. I'm incredibly impatient. I want everything now. It's hard for me to tolerate a slow pace. I get annoyed with it. I don't like the word 'no.' Like really bad. Really bad," disclosed Lopez. She continued, "If you try to tell me no, I will get into a bad argument with you about why it can happen, and how it can happen, and why you can't do it."

Although she owned up to how difficult she can be sometimes, Jennifer Lopez was also adamant about highlighting the "double standard" that exists within society when it comes to men and women and different ethnicities. She brought this up in light of past instances in which she was chastised for her actions and revealed what she believes causes this.

"Because I was Latin, and I was a woman, and I was Puerto Rican, and they were not giving me the same pass that they gave everybody else at certain times," reflected the "Ain't It Funny" artist. She added that though the critique got to her, "it never took" her "down for very long," as she doesn't like "to harp on the negative or feel sorry" for herself.

From her previous statements, it's clear that Lopez has developed thick skin when it comes to facing adverse reactions from people. Public criticism of the star—as was seen with the recent barrage of comments concerning Reed's video—has happened on more than one occasion, like when social media users blasted her Met Gala look.

Attending as one of the co-chairs of the Spring 2024 exhibit, the 54-year-old was a show-stopper while posing for pictures at the event. Lopez wore a gorgeous, slightly sheer couture gown designed by the iconic fashion house of Schiaparelli, which was adorned with crystal embellishments and showcased her curvy figure.

She complemented her ensemble with pristine silver jewels including dangling earrings, rings, and an extravagant diamond necklace. With the beautiful dress as her look's main focal point, Lopez opted for neutral makeup.

She used a combination of brown, pink, and caramel tones, and cheekbone bronzer with glossy lips. Complementing the look, she fashioned her hair into a top knot bun, leaving only a few wisps of hair loose to frame her face. The "Can't Get Enough" artist's appearance garnered a lot of attention from the public.

"The hair and makeup is terrible! She looks tired," wrote an unimpressed social media user. In response to this comment, another person said, "It looks like she tossed up a messy bun after a day at the beach."

Similarly, someone on Facebook commented, "Love the dress but this looks like my everyday mom bun 😂." Continuing to criticize her hair and makeup, another user expressed, "That highlighter on the inner eyes is only highlighting the wrinkles under her eyes! First time I've ever noticed them. She has great makeup artists so????"

"Lookin like Jenny did her own hair and makeup [...] too old for see thru," reprimanded a social media user. "What's going on with the hair? Love everything else," pondered another person.

Commenting on her dress, someone else chastised, "She's beautiful but dress decent it's getting old and so is she, wonder what her kids will think when [they are] older." Referring to Lopez's overall look, another simply noted, "No class," while someone else stated, "That neck don't lie."

Although many criticized Lopez's appearance, what may not be appreciated was the amount of work that went into its conception. According to fashion designer Mariel Haenn, the star's gown "took over 800 hours of work" to make.

Designed by using four enlarged butterfly wings to make up the dress' entire surface area, in addition to using "2,500,000 silver foil bugle beads," the inspiration behind the dress was the butterfly.

"Much more than flowers, the butterfly symbolizes metamorphosis. Transformation. Something that was asleep that wakes up beautiful, powerful, and new. The butterfly is a perfect articulation of a sleeping beauty," Haenn explained.

As for Lopez's hair and makeup, a fashion outlet profiling the Met Gala looks reported that the idea was to prove that less is more, especially when one is already dazzling in a Schiaparelli haute couture piece.

Of her hair, celebrity hairstylist Lorenzo Martin divulged, "Just like a butterfly, we wanted the hair to be angelic, fresh, and beautiful." To achieve the desired hair, Martin used the Shark FlexStyle Sparkle Air Styling & Drying System in Black Diamond, the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Styler, and Tresemme Extra Hold Hair Spray.

In addition to her stunning Tiffany & Co. jewelry, Lopez accessorized her look with beautiful nails done by Tom Bachik. On how he brought her nails to life, Bachik disclosed, "Like a butterfly transforming in a shimmery chrysalis, I encased Jen's polished natural nail in a translucent pearl cocoon."

Of her attendance as a co-host at the Met, the butterfly star, who has been to the fashion extravaganza a series of ten times before, mentioned that she felt "honored." "I was really honored to be asked to host it alongside Zendaya and Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. Anna was gracious enough to ask me," Lopez gushed.

Noticeably absent from Lopez's side as she dominated the red carpet was her dashing beau Ben Affleck, 51. As for why the famous actor did not attend the event with his wife this year, a media outlet confirmed that though he had planned on joining Jennifer Lopez, he could not.
