George Clooney's Wife Amal in Crochet Dress with Pockets on a Date Looks 'Like His Daughter' & Ignites Mixed Reactions

Amal Clooney is at the center of a fashion debate after she wore a crochet dress during a date night. Despite the dress being dubbed a huge trend, many are unimpressed, especially where a certain detail is concerned.

Living out her bridal fantasy, the beautiful wife of Hollywood legend George Clooney looked radiant in a draping, white crochet dress on Monday evening, August 26. While Amal Clooney looked fabulous standing next to her dapper beau, some netizens, who also made comments about how the duo looked as a couple, didn't think the ensemble was her best look.

Despite being already married to George for almost ten years, the human rights lawyer opted to rock bridal fashions to enjoy a lovely date night with her husband. Outlets report that the couple arrived by boat to enjoy dinner at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como, Italy.

Amal's crochet dress that she donned for their excursion is from fashion powerhouse Chanel's Resort 2023 collection, which was designed by Virginie Viard. The garment features open and closed panels of stitching and silver sequins placed all over, adding a touch of glamor to the beachy material.

The gorgeous Chanel dress was featured as part of Look 61 in the fashion brand's Cruise 2022/23 fashion show. Worn by a model on the runway, the dress was paired with a matching, crystal-embellished handbag, a stunning, sparkly, black, button-down jacket, an eye-catching necklace, and chic strappy heels.

Choosing to style the dress differently, Amal did not wear a jacket and accessorized with large silver earrings and metallic silver heels. Matching his wife's demure elegance, George looked handsome in his beige suit jacket and formal pants.

Upon seeing the couple on their night out in Italy, many social media users took to online platforms to share their opinions. A lot of people criticized Amal's crochet dress, especially where the garment's pockets were concerned.

"[Silly] for a serious lawyer," asserted an Instagram user. Another stated, "Those patch pockets are a crime against this woman. Against all women!" "Attacked by a tablecloth, still is tall and has cleavage," added someone else.

On the other hand, one fan was pleasantly surprised by the dress pockets, penning, "It has pockets!? 🤩." An observer who was confused by the style the dress was going for commented, "The tone of this dress is confusing. On the one hand it's giving cozy knit with pockets and on the other it's an evening gown with sequins. She looks beautiful though."

Interestingly, despite many not having an affinity for Amal's dress, the garment has been dubbed the biggest dress trend of the summer this year (2024).

According to a fashion outlet, many labels and fashion houses have been drawing inspiration from bohemian styles like crochet outfits that have a nostalgic '70s feel.

In keeping with modern times, however, designers find ways to add nuances that elevate the look, as many of them have done with the crochet skirt, for example.

Whether modern crochet dresses are adorned with sleek silhouettes or fresh cutouts and patterns, the piece of clothing remains "an essential item for any wardrobe."

Aside from comments made about how Amal looked in the wardrobe staple item, other people shifted their focus to how Amal and George looked together.

The outfit was made of pink toile fabric, and the nude peep-toe heels Amal wore complemented it. She also accessorized her look with a white shoulder bag and oversized dark shades. The ruffle embellished dress she stepped out in is a vintage design from fashion powerhouse icon Donatella Versace.

The dress, featuring an asymmetrical hemline and a tiered skirt, was showcased in Versace's 2004 spring collection, known as the "Diva Alert." This collection was trendy among A-list "It girls" Lindsay Lohan, Liv Tyler, and Britney Spears, who have all worn the same print Amal opted for.

Donatella's iconic spring 2004 collection also saw model Fernanda Tavares rock the same floral dress on the runway. However, the only difference was that it was free of flowers.
