On July 10, 2025, during a stop on his "Love, Light and Song" tour in Cardiff, Stevie Wonder spoke out about a long-standing rumor: that he can see. Performing at Blackweir Live, the musician calmly refuted the claim with a spiritual reflection that reframed blindness as a gift, one that has shaped his view of the world and people.

"I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, 'When did I want to let the world know this?' But I wanted to say it right now," he began.

This isn't the first time that Stevie Wonder has talked about his condition or addressed how others perceive people with disabilities.

During an interview for the United Nations, from a video compilation uploaded in 2024, the legendary musician explained, "Even though it is considered that we have a so-called disability, we really are abled [sic] persons with different abilities."

Additionally, he has talked about the spiritual way he interprets others before. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 for Apple TV, the host remarked that Wonder could not see color, referring to the color of people's skin.

The musician responded with, "No — well, I do see color, but I don't see it like that. I see color in the spirit of the person. And your spirit is either good or bad. That's the bottom line. You are living for the perpetuation of life or you are actually killing yourself with the hate you have within. That's what's up."

Despite what most people may believe, Wonder lives a regular life. During an interview for Ability Magazine in February 2015, Chet Cooper asked him about his hobbies outside performing.

Wonder said that he loved sports, including bowling, basketball, air hockey, and roller skating, but his true passion was music. When asked if he had ever tried golf, the icon responded, "No."

Cooper then asked if there was anything the musician had done that would be considered outside the norm for people who are blind, to which Wonder shared that there was nothing in particular, but added that he would be open to learning new things, like a new sport.

He then pointed to the harpejji as an example, describing it as a highly visual instrument that was hard to master.
