D'Angelo's Son Breaks His Silence on His Father's Death
First, his mother was ripped away from him in a violent crash that shattered his world. Now, heartbreak has struck again. The son of neo-soul legend D'Angelo is mourning another devastating loss — his father.
Michael D'Angelo Archer, the Grammy-winning icon known worldwide as D'Angelo, died on October 14, 2025. In the wake of his passing, his son, Michael Archer II, has spoken out, paying tribute to his late father. D'Angelo's death came just seven months after the tragic car accident that claimed the life of his mother, Angie Stone.

Michael Archer II Pays Tribute After D'Angelo's Death
Michael opened up in an emotional statement, "I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me."
He added, "I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that."
A Family Torn Apart Within Months
D'Angelo's death came just months after that of singer Angie Stone, his former partner and the mother of his son, Michael. She passed away earlier this year. In March, Angie was involved in a fatal car accident while traveling from Mobile, Alabama, to Atlanta after a performance.
The crash occurred in Montgomery County when the driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, Leethel Carter, reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

Fans Asked to Celebrate His Legacy
Now, D'Angelo's family has shared a heartfelt statement after his demise. They penned, "The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life.
The family also noted, "After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D'Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D'Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025.”

The family went on to say that while they were heartbroken that D'Angelo could now live on only through memories, they remained deeply thankful for the powerful and timeless music he left behind.
They asked for privacy as they grieved, but welcomed everyone to honor his memory by celebrating the musical legacy he shared with the world.

D'Angelo's Final Days Revealed
D'Angelo died from pancreatic cancer in New York City. Although he never spoke publicly about his illness, sources revealed that he had been undergoing treatment for several months. "He was in hospice for two weeks but had been in the hospital for months," an insider divulged.
While in hospice care, D'Angelo's son, Michael, never left his side. "His son was there with him and had been with him in the hospital," a source revealed. "People are really worried about Mike right now. His mom died a day after his birthday and now six months later he's burying his dad."

From Gospel Roots to Global Stardom
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, D'Angelo's musical journey began in the pews of his father's Pentecostal church. A natural prodigy, he was playing piano by age three, and by five years old, he was accompanying sermons at his grandfather's church as well.

As a teen, he showcased his talent at local talent shows, performing with his cousins in a group called Three of a Kind, before forming Michael Archer and Precise with his brother Luther.
A Reluctant Sex Symbol, Haunted by Body Image
Though adored by millions and honored with Grammy Awards, D'Angelo wrestled with demons few ever saw. He shunned fame, opting for a life of isolation, and was said to be deeply uncomfortable with the sex symbol persona thrust upon him after the iconic "Untitled" video.

"D'Angelo was very eccentric, he had a manager but he wouldn't work. He was a recluse; he didn't like going out of the house," said the source.
They continued, "He battled with his weight. The chiseled machismo man that people fell in love with, that wasn't his natural aesthetic. He was naturally a bigger guy. He never was comfortable being a sex symbol, but also he didn't like people seeing him on his heavier side, so he was always really conflicted."

Tributes Pour In For A Lost Legend
In the wake of his passing, tributes have flooded in. DJ Premier, who famously collaborated with D'Angelo on the 1998 track "Devil's Pie," shared a gut-wrenching message on X, "Such a sad loss to the passing of D'angelo. We have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D' Love You KING [sic]."

As family, friends, and fans mourn, one thing is certain: D'Angelo's final chapter was quiet — but his legacy will thunder for generations.
