Liev Schreiber Hospitalized at 58 — Here's What We've Learned
The "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star faced a sudden health scare, with the actor's representative confirming his current condition in a recent statement.
Liev Schreiber was rushed to a New York City hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2025, just one year after publicly recalling a frightening onstage episode involving sudden memory loss.

According to TMZ, Schreiber had contacted his doctor and was advised to seek immediate medical attention and went for evaluation at the hospital.
By Monday, November 17, doctors had not identified a cause for his massive headache. However, Schreiber was reportedly alert, walking unassisted, speaking clearly, and showing no signs of impairment, with full use of his limbs.

A representative told the news outlet, "Out of an abundance of caution, Liev went into the hospital for testing and as of this afternoon, he has been cleared to return to work."
The incident echoes a prior episode Schreiber discussed during an April 2024 appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers." Schreiber recalled, "The worst nightmare that an actor could possibly ever experience."

He went on to explain to host Seth Meyers what happened, "I was in my dressing room, and I had a terrible headache. Like, a really bad headache. I thought it was maybe a fast-food headache, but it felt a little stronger than that. And I'm walking down the stairs, and I'm thinking, 'This is not normal. I don't feel okay.'"

During the episode, Schreiber began to sense that something was seriously wrong when he saw his co-star, Amy Ryan, backstage and couldn't recall the usual pre-show phrase actors say to one another.
Even more unsettling, he suddenly realized he didn't remember her name. Trying not to raise an alarm, he awkwardly brushed past the moment, continuing toward the stage dressed in his priest costume.

At stage left, he spotted the script under a light, but didn't recognize it at all. As the stage manager called out their places. Schreiber still had no idea what play he was in.
He walked onstage and recited the first six or seven lines from memory, going through the motions automatically. But when he tried to engage with the performance fully, everything vanished.

Standing under the lights, he realized he was in front of a dark audience, completely lost. He knew he was in a play but had no idea which one. Looking down at his costume, he saw that he was a priest, which gave him no clues.
He left the stage and was met with concern from the cast and crew, who quickly rushed him to his dressing room. The next thing he remembered was hearing his understudy performing his lines — lines that sounded familiar, but which he no longer recognized.

Following the ordeal, doctors initially feared a serious neurological event, but MRI scans ruled out any immediate damage. Schreiber recalled, "No brain bleed. Perfectly fine. Might I add, a fairly good-looking brain, the guy said."

A neurologist eventually diagnosed him with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA), a condition the Mayo Clinic describes as a sudden, temporary episode of memory loss in otherwise alert individuals.
Patients often repeat questions, experience confusion, and are unable to form new memories, though they still recognize themselves and familiar faces. The condition is not considered dangerous and typically resolves within a few hours.
In a July/August 2025 interview with Cigar Aficionado, Schreiber spoke more broadly about the effects of aging, acknowledging that learning lines has become more difficult over time.
Still, he said the demands of performing have also become more thrilling as the years go on. He even joked that while he might be old enough to play King Lear, he's not sure he can still memorize all the lines.
Schreiber also reflected on the disconnect between how he feels and how he looks. Even at 55, Schreiber said he often still thinks like he's in his twenties. He expected to be wiser, calmer, more at peace by now, but instead finds himself surprised by how little has changed, especially in a profession where he's constantly under public scrutiny.

Despite those reflections, Schreiber has embraced a new chapter in his personal life. In September 2023, he announced the birth of his daughter, Hazel Bee, with wife Taylor Neisen, sharing photos on Instagram. He captioned his post:
"So happy that Hazel Bee is finally here. She arrived early in the morning of August 27th and has been a dream every day since. Mom and baby are both super happy and healthy. Thanks to all for the love and support."
Just weeks before the announcement, the Daily Mail revealed that Schreiber had secretly married Neisen during an intimate Hamptons ceremony over the Fourth of July weekend.
The wedding was attended by only four guests, including Schreiber's two children with ex-partner Naomi Watts — Sasha and Kai — and officiated by author Jonathan Safran Foer.

While navigating his own health challenges, the actor has also remained closely involved in his family life, most recently reuniting with his former partner.
As reported in August 2025, Watts and Schreiber came together once again — this time to guide their eldest son, Sasha, into the next chapter of his life. The former couple spent 11 years together before ending their relationship in 2016.

At the time, they explained that the decision had been made after a period of reflection. It was also understood that their relationship had been experiencing strain for a while before they officially parted ways.

Even after their separation, the actors have continued to raise their children as a team. Their focus has been on creating a stable and respectful environment, working together to provide their kids with a more balanced upbringing than what they experienced themselves.

Their dedication has often shown through on social media, where Watts regularly highlights family milestones and everyday moments, from celebrations to simple outings together. Earlier this summer, she celebrated Sasha turning 18 with a heartfelt message:
"Happy birthday sweet, darling @sashapeteschreiber 18 today—and ready for the world! Cannot believe it.😊😭 Have so loved watching you grow into the kindest, most wonderful young man. Thank you for making me a first time mum [sic]. ♥️"
The family has also been spotted together in casual settings. Watts posted on Instagram Stories showing her, Schreiber, and their son dining at a restaurant, captioned "Here we go…" while tagging both father and son.

Another shot captured her and her ex-husband smiling together over a meal, with the caption, "Mom and Dad," a simple nod to their ongoing teamwork.

One candid moment also shared on her story featured Schreiber and their son. The shot was taken from behind as the two walked hand in hand along a city sidewalk. She tagged the slide, "Day #2."

One of the last glimpses captured the three of them picking up supplies for their son's dorm, with Watts's bright smile reflecting both the excitement and the tenderness of getting their eldest ready for life as he heads off to college.

That farewell became official as Watts and Schreiber reunited to send their son off as he began his college journey at the University of Southern California (USC). Schreiber shared the moment on Instagram, posting a photo with his hand around his son's shoulders and writing:
"Starting to feel the pull. Gonna miss my ride or die. Having said that, USC is gonna get one of the deepest, kindest, bravest and most beautiful boys I have ever known [sic]."
The update quickly sparked a wave of responses from followers, with many noting how closely the young man resembles Watts. "Wow. He took his mother's face… what an angel. Good luck to him. He'll love it," one commenter wrote.
Another added, "He looks very kind and sensitive and gorgeous. Here's to raising a kind and sensitive young man- the world needs more of them! 👏👏👏😍😍😍"
Others chimed in with similar sentiments, praising the young star's maturity and likeness to Watts. "He has his Mom's whole face !!😍🙌," a fan noted, while another remarked, "wow all grown up - how time flies - good luck👍❤️," and a third gushed, "He looks just like his beautiful momma!"
Some highlighted the striking family resemblance with humor, "It's like your physical genes didn’t event [sic] try 😊," one person joked. Another observed, "Wow definitely Mum's twin but definitely had great parents raising him, well done [sic] 😊."
Comments continued to celebrate the milestone, with playful nods to the USC student's height and features. "His mum tried to clone herself with this one!" a fan wrote. Another concluded, "Tall like Dad, but sorry Liev all Mom [sic]."
As the 18-year-old embarks on his new chapter at USC, the moment stands as both a milestone for him and a testament to the enduring bond his parents continue to share. For Watts and Schreiber, reuniting for their son's send-off underscored the lasting strength of their co-parenting partnership.
